      There’s something I can’t understand about updating when changing mirrors. I post the last updates to explain what confuses me.

      $ sudo apt-get update
      Hit:1 http://ftp.gr.debian.org/debian stretch-updates InRelease
      Ign:2 http://ftp.gr.debian.org/debian stretch InRelease
      Hit:3 http://ftp.gr.debian.org/debian stretch Release
      Get:4 http://repo.antixlinux.com/stretch stretch InRelease [20.7 kB]
      Get:6 http://repo.antixlinux.com/stretch stretch/main i386 Packages [170 kB]
      Get:7 http://repo.antixlinux.com/stretch stretch/nosystemd i386 Packages [144 kB]
      Hit:8 http://security.debian.org stretch/updates InRelease
      Fetched 335 kB in 6s (48.4 kB/s)
      Reading package lists... Done

      So, 335 kB fetched. I run the update command again:

      $ sudo apt-get update
      Hit:1 http://security.debian.org stretch/updates InRelease
      Hit:2 http://ftp.gr.debian.org/debian stretch-updates InRelease
      Ign:3 http://ftp.gr.debian.org/debian stretch InRelease
      Hit:4 http://ftp.gr.debian.org/debian stretch Release
      Hit:5 http://repo.antixlinux.com/stretch stretch InRelease
      Reading package lists... Done

      Nothing fetched. I suppose this is normal, because everything had fetched the first time. But, after changing the mirror:

      $ sudo apt-get update
      Hit:1 http://security.debian.org stretch/updates InRelease
      Hit:2 http://ftp.gr.debian.org/debian stretch-updates InRelease
      Get:3 http://ftp.cc.uoc.gr/mirrors/linux/mx/antix/stretch stretch InRelease [20.7 kB]
      Ign:4 http://ftp.gr.debian.org/debian stretch InRelease
      Hit:5 http://ftp.gr.debian.org/debian stretch Release
      Get:6 http://ftp.cc.uoc.gr/mirrors/linux/mx/antix/stretch stretch/main i386 Packages [170 kB]
      Get:7 http://ftp.cc.uoc.gr/mirrors/linux/mx/antix/stretch stretch/nosystemd i386 Packages [144 kB]
      Fetched 335 kB in 3s (85.3 kB/s)
      Reading package lists... Done

      So, 335 kB fetched, again. Is it normal? I run the update command again:

      $ sudo apt-get update
      Hit:1 http://ftp.cc.uoc.gr/mirrors/linux/mx/antix/stretch stretch InRelease
      Hit:2 http://ftp.gr.debian.org/debian stretch-updates InRelease
      Ign:3 http://ftp.gr.debian.org/debian stretch InRelease
      Hit:4 http://security.debian.org stretch/updates InRelease
      Hit:5 http://ftp.gr.debian.org/debian stretch Release
      Reading package lists... Done

      Nothing fetched. As I said, I suppose this is normal.
      I turned it to another one mirror. It behaves the same way:

      $ sudo apt-get update
      Hit:1 http://security.debian.org stretch/updates InRelease
      Hit:2 http://ftp.gr.debian.org/debian stretch-updates InRelease
      Ign:3 http://ftp.gr.debian.org/debian stretch InRelease
      Hit:4 http://ftp.gr.debian.org/debian stretch Release
      Get:5 http://nl.mxrepo.com/antix/stretch stretch InRelease [20.7 kB]
      Get:7 http://nl.mxrepo.com/antix/stretch stretch/main i386 Packages [170 kB]
      Get:8 http://nl.mxrepo.com/antix/stretch stretch/nosystemd i386 Packages [144 kB]
      Fetched 335 kB in 4s (80.2 kB/s)
      Reading package lists... Done

      $ sudo apt-get update
      Hit:1 http://security.debian.org stretch/updates InRelease
      Hit:2 http://ftp.gr.debian.org/debian stretch-updates InRelease
      Ign:3 http://ftp.gr.debian.org/debian stretch InRelease
      Hit:4 http://nl.mxrepo.com/antix/stretch stretch InRelease
      Hit:5 http://ftp.gr.debian.org/debian stretch Release
      Reading package lists... Done

      Finally, I turned it to the previous mirror and:

      $ sudo apt-get update
      Hit:1 http://security.debian.org stretch/updates InRelease
      Hit:2 http://ftp.gr.debian.org/debian stretch-updates InRelease
      Get:3 http://ftp.cc.uoc.gr/mirrors/linux/mx/antix/stretch stretch InRelease [20.7 kB]
      Ign:4 http://ftp.gr.debian.org/debian stretch InRelease
      Hit:5 http://ftp.gr.debian.org/debian stretch Release
      Get:6 http://ftp.cc.uoc.gr/mirrors/linux/mx/antix/stretch stretch/main i386 Packages [170 kB]
      Get:7 http://ftp.cc.uoc.gr/mirrors/linux/mx/antix/stretch stretch/nosystemd i386 Packages [144 kB]
      Fetched 335 kB in 3s (85.8 kB/s)
      Reading package lists... Done

      335 kB fetched, again. Is it normal?

        Yes it is normal for each repo to fetch when it is used for the first time. Although you the user know it has already done the fetching (after changing repo and back) apt doesn’t.

        Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.

        antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

          Thanks for the answer.

          edit: I finally decided not to edit the topic. That could pollute searching for solutions to real problems.
