      Hello,

      To update 17.1 to 17.2 and since the base is Debian I ran:

      apt-get update
      apt-get dist-upgrade

      However, after rebooting, running

      lsb_release -a

      To find the same version number 17.1

      Shouldn’t it have been updated?

      By the way, I am so gladly surprised about AntiX being solo light! Congratulations!
      Thank you,

        We don’t update the version since we prefer to know what the user started with in order to give any support.

        Enjoy antiX!

        antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

          Thank you for the clarification. After all, running those two commands will keep you updated to the latest release, so that’s good.

          Regards,

            I’m confused when going from 17.1 to 17.2.

            After installing default, I tried to add xfce4,alpine, and virtualbox as in my post in “Tips and Tricks”. To my surprise, when I ran “apropos systemd”,
            deb-systemd-helpers and deb-systemd-invoke appeared. When I tried to remove them with synaptic, I was warned that system might no longer work if I continued. Looking at the other programs, libs, etc. that would be removed, I agreed. Since my /home was on a separate partition, I re-installed and tried to figure out how this was happening. Knowing that debian stretch uses systemd, I removed all references to debian from sources.list.d. No joy. After flailing away with repeat installs I narrowed it down to xfce4. In order for synaptic to find it, I had to check the box for testing. xfce4 installed fine but systemd too. Finally I reinstalled before I installed xfce4, I again checked for systemd.
            Those 2 commands were there, even though testing line reads “deb http://iso.mxrepo.com/antix/testing/ nonfree nosystemd main” !!!!

            What am I missing please?

              Since you are running testing you won’t go from antiX-17.1 to antiX-17.2 since both are stretch based.
              Post the output of apropos systemd. It doesn’t necessarily mean you have systemd installed.

                1. I used fresh install of antiX-17.2
                2. synaptic couldn’t find xfce4 so I had to check the testing box in synaptic repository list
                3. reloaded list
                4. installed printer but did not install xfce4
                5. here is post of apropos systemd and more

                $ apropos systemd
                deb-systemd-helper (lp) – subset of systemctl for machines nor running systemd
                deb-systemd-invoke (lp) – wrapper around systemctl, respecting policy-rc.d

                $ whereis deb-systemd-helper
                deb-systemd-helper: /usr/bin/deb-systemd-helper /usr/share/man/man1/deb-systemd-helper.lp.gz
                $ whereis deb-systemd-invoke
                deb-systemd-invoke: /usr/bin/deb-systemd-invoke /usr/share/man/man1/deb-systemd-invoke.lp.gz

                so I guess that using synaptic to install anything when testing box is checked will install some of systemd

                thanks.

                  2. You can install xfce4 on default stretch antiX-17.2 via synaptic without issue.
                  Maybe your issue is down to your sources list repos.

                  inxi -r

                  will show it.

                  4. which “printer” did you select to install?

                  5. shows you are not running systemd

                    Thank you for getting me back on track.

                    2. I used synaptic from menu panel of previous xfce4 setup which appeared to be issue. xfce4 wasn’t listed. Your comment led me to go the “system” “Control Center” on that menu panel, where I was able to go to “system”, to “Manage Packages” which brought up “synaptic. xfce was listed. Doing this I could install xfce4 for 17.2.

                    4. I selected Brother HL-2170W laser printer but there was no driver listed for it. I chose HL-1xx0 which was earlier printer and it worked. That is probably where deb-systemd-helper and deb-systemd-invoke were brought in.

                    Thanks again for explanation and questions that helped me solve problem.
