Hi! I noticed VLC and KOrganizer have stopped working after an update. I have tried updating both via the terminal and updating the repository using Synaptic. I get the same error:
3 packages can be upgraded. Run ‘apt list –upgradable’ to see them.
W: https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/debian/dists/buster/InRelease: Key is stored in legacy trusted.gpg keyring (/etc/apt/trusted.gpg), see the DEPRECATION section in apt-key(8) for details.When I attempt to upgrade I am told that three packages are being held back:
libwbclient0 vlc-data vlc-plugin-base
I assumed this would eventually correct itself, but the error is troubling. I would appreciate any help you can give! Thank you!

::Hi – on my antiX 19 system I have absolutely no problem with VLC – so I assume that’s a problem with your particular system, not a general antiX 19.X problem…
I don’t have KOrganizer installed, but I assume the same thing applies to it.You can try purging vlc (since it is not working for you now) and then install it again…?

::Please post
inxi -r
From the output you have at least buster-backports and buster-updates together with testing repos enabled.

::Here is inxi-r. Some additional information. I use Antix Testing and I run a 32 bit x86 machine. I was concerned that VLC and KOrganizer might have stopped supporting 32 bit, but I can’t see any evidence of it when I searched for it.
Thanks again! I am grateful to be a part of this community!

::Thanks! I will probably try it. I have a 32 bit machine and am bit concerned that VLC and KOrganizer no longer support 32 bit.

::Hi, I experienced some held-back packages in the past.
It was typically after an early upgrade (before official release).
I suspect it stems from some dependencies that cannot be met, i.e. a new non-conflicting version is not available in the repositories (yet).BEWARE: Removing/Purging left me without the packages until the conflicts were resolved but only few times.
Before purging/removing the held-back packages, please explicitly verify that there is an install-able candidate!
Otherwise you may (temporarily) end up without the packages you remove.I suggest to perform a test by attempting to explicitly upgrade the package(s) (and aborting by pressing ‘n’ when asked to choose).
sudo apt install --upgrade <package-name>
The below command may help to list the candidates for install (as an alternative to the above one):
apt-cache policy <package-name>
Both commands accepts multiple package names separated by space.April 14, 2022 at 1:02 am #81267Member

::Hi!
I have an update on the programs that wouldn’t work after the update. I tried to purge VLC as suggested, and was told it wasn’t installed. When I tried to install it through Synaptic (the box to check was empty), it led me to believe there were dependencies that weren’t satisfied. So I think if I just wait, the problem will resolve itself.
On the KOrganizer issue, I Googled the error message that I received. Apparently it is fairly common. I was advised on several sites to basically delete the user data files. When I did that, I lost all of my calendar entries, but the program now opens properly and I have reentered my calendar entries.
BTW, I would love to use Google Calendar, but the internet is erratic at best out here. Not many Amish use the Internet, so there is not much of a demand for high speed. lol
If the updating error message I received regrading heldback packages is an issue, please let me know and what you would do to correct it. I would be grateful. Thank you!

::Not sure if it can lead to your error message, but if using the testing repos please outcomment with # the line in the buster-backports-list
/etc/apt/sources.list.d/buster-backports-list
# Debian Buster backports. Use with caution. #deb http://deb.debian.org/debian buster-backports main contrib non-freeand also the line in the buster-updates.list
etc/apt/sources.list.d/debian-stable-updates.list
# Debian Buster Updates #deb http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/ buster-updates main contrib non-freeEDIT:
I’ve just seen there’s another error in your lists.The antix testing repos has to slashes after the word antix
in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/antix.list
Please change it to one slash
deb http://mirrors.rit.edu/mxlinux/mx-packages/antix/testing/ testing main nonfree nosytemdEDIT2: It seems the double slash doesn’t matter, so forget about the last error.
