I am getting this in dmesg: WMI SMBIOS userspace interface not supported(0), try upgrading to a newer BIOS

Was wanting to know if WMI has some performance benefit (or otherwise) that makes upgrading the bios worthwhile, or if it’s just for setting keys.

If so, could somebody outline the steps necessary to do this on a Dell 1737 Studio? And if not, that is good news:)

        sleekmason,

        Have you looked at these:

        https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/10062095/

        https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/10062265/

        Just food for thought.

        cheers,

Okay, looks like the compile for 4.15 went just fine. No errors in dmesg, and no noticeable changes (didn’t expect any).

Went ahead and tried patching 4.17rc but no go there:) Figured that would be the case. “Make” is treating warning as errors. I thought about doing a “make -i” to force errors through, but ultimately don’t think that may be such a hot idea. Since there doesn’t seem to be an issue one way or the other, I reckon i’ll just let it go. Marking Solved.
