Yes. If it can work and detect stuff from BIOS, it should work for booting antiX. I have used it for my tablet (I cannot boot otherwise, as it has a micro-USB port). I used a 4×2.0 USB hub and a 4×3.0 USB hub and both worked for booting antiX, using Wifi mouse+keyboard and a Wi-Fi donggle for connecting to the net (all three working at the same time).

do you know the chipset of the working USB hubs? I have tried an atmel 4 port usb and it doesn’t work, the usb port on my keyboard doesn’t boot the stick either (it hangs half way), hardware info says i have an “NVIDIA Corporation MCP79” USB controller. This issue seems to be quite common with older laptops, it also happens with usb wifi adapters.

i don’t know how to detect stuff from bios i don’t think my laptop has a bios.

            It is something like this:

Try connecting it with the USB drive before booting. I happen to have that limitation on my old tablet. It won’t detect it when I connect it if it is On, but it will detect it if I connected it before booting.
