Just want to mention, in case someone else also experiences similar issues:
After most recent upgrade to antiX 19.4, which showed among others:
– desktop-session-antix
– desktop-defaults-antix
– antiX goodies
– bunch of other stuff
After this upgrade I experience various artifacts, which are not critical and more just annoyance type, such as:
– Volume control icon in tray disappeared
– On IceWM desktop wallpaper does not show anymore. Instead just the slimski background with ‘Sessiontype’ in top left
– Other artifacts related to windows, and others…Now, I admit I did not spend the time to investigate and fix these artifacts as I am more focused on antiX 21 B2 Runit, which works very nicely and became my primary now, so I did not focus on or care too much about figuring out the latest upgrade of the legacy antiX 19.4. I just fell back to pre-upgrade version of antiX Live, backup stick, which is relatively recent version.
I am just reporting my experience, just in case the latest upgrade to 19.4 might affect someone in a similar way. I am not asking for help on this legacy antiX 19.4, particularly that priorities are not moving forward to antiX 21, so I do not want to waste someones time on this legacy stuff…
Thanks and Regards.

::This may be something important and not isolated, so I will check what happens on my installed antiX-19.4 after update.

::I’m running various frugal installs of antiX-19 series fully updated and I don’t see this.
The same with my day-to-day antiX-19 installed to ssd.Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.

::I have tried a few times and cannot reproduce either. pure icewm launches the wallpaper properly.
Is your system using live or installed? If live, did you do a General remaster or a Personal one?Could you provide a screenshot of the artifacts so we can try to speculate based on that?

Personal remaster. Live. I have repeated this upgrade with the same result. However, this might be specific to pre- and after configuration. My slimski theme is default not antiX, which might play role in wallpaper not showing, just slimski background.
As mentioned before, if this does not affect anyone else then not worth the trouble. First thing that I noticed was volume icon missing, but volume adjustments worked. In IceWM config volume icon was correctly set to show.
Eventually I just re-imaged from pre-change backup stick, which works perfectly.
Not important for me as I am focused on Runit 21 B2 as my new most used version.
But I appreciate you spent the time and effort, though… Nobody else reports, so please consider this closed…
Thanks and Regards.P.S.
By the way, for upgrade I was using Synaptic – mark and apply all upgrades, if that would make a difference…- This reply was modified 1 year, 7 months ago by olsztyn.

::slimski is not the login manager for antiX-19
Do you get the same using default slim?Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.

::slimski is not the login manager for antiX-19
Do you get the same using default slim?Sorry for slight delay…
How do I re-instate Slim for this? Unlike in Runit B2, the 19.4 Control Center does not have Login Manager to switch between Slim and Slimski, just ‘Set autologin’. Switching to Slimski mode was as I remember a part of Slimski installation…
Just to point out, Slimski worked fine with 19.4 as well, not just 21. Just this latest bunch of updates are causing these artifacts for me.
Also, out of curiosity I performed another update from the same perfectly working antiX (with Slimski as login), but this time using:
sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade, just to take Synaptic out of equation, but the end result is the same…Slim is still installed, so, if someone can point me to the best way to switch back from Slimski for testing purpose I should be able to verify if it is Slimski that is not happy with the latest updates…

::sudo dpkg-reconfigure slim
to reinstate slim.I will test tomorrow on a pristine antiX 19.4 live to see if I can reproduce the issue, but the wallpaper and startup configuration in your live system should not have changed at all even after an desktop-session-antix update (the update only replaces /etc/skel/.desktop-session and not the demo user desktop-session configuration)

Appears flipping to Slim this way worked. I will remaster again and report.

Do you get the same using default slim? Thanks to Xecure’s quick process to flip from Slimski to Slim I can confirm that those issues I was listing in my post are now gone after conversion to Slim. Volume icon is back in tray and the correct wallpaper is back, among other issues.
So it appears that Slimski is not too happy with the latest updates. It was working fine with my previous update level of antiX 19.4, which was still very recent, until the latest bunch however…
For me it is not very material, as I am working mostly on Runit 21 B2 and not legacy 19.4, but these compatibility issues might be handy to know for someone still using 19.4…
Thanks and Regards…

So just to know, and for those who do use Slimski in antiX 19.4:
– Slimski will not be supported in antiX 19.4 so issues introduced with the recent updates to antiX 19.4 will not be fixed
– Or Slimski is allowed in antiX 19.4 and issues with recent updates will be eventually fixed? Thanks and Regards…

::If you remove slimski (including /etc/slimski.local.conf) and install the newest version from here, then test, if you still experience the same issues, we can try changing options in /etc/slimski.conf or /etc/slimski.local.conf or, in worst case scenario, I can explore this issues on my installed antiX 19 and spend some time trying to figure it out.
