Todays update: did not get the problem olstyn reported but broken VLC.

apt asks to autoremove VLC, tested followed, a reinstall using package installer fails.
My attempt to get VLC reinstalled failed with vlc-plugin-base depends on vlc-data (= 3.0.16-1) but
1:3.0.16-dmo1 is selected for install depends on: libsystemd0.

Trouble is VLC is very popular and on our setup coupled with mediathekview.
Really hope we can get a fix before I get hot ears from complaints:-).

          Hallo anticapitalista,
Will give it another go, must eat first, not been an easy day..
I had deb Multimedia commented out, both on my installation and
          what I passed to others.

            Hi @ModdIt

            1:3.0.16-dmo1 is selected for install
shows that the upgrade is trying to upgrade from Debian multimedia repo.

Hi anticapitalista, my repos were ok. I still kept getting depends on libsystemd0.
Removed all I could find VLC related. tried autoremove, got nothing to remove, did apt clean.
              still same error.

Your post inspired me to try installing listed additional packages one by one.

              the culprit was libelogind0.

I installed that on suspicion, after that was able to get an error free and
working install, Playback and sound seem ok now.

Thanks for assistance with a pretty weird, to me anyway, error :-).

In the thread on libelogind0 (post #80787), olsztyn found that the install of rtkit leads to a requirement for the installation of libelogind0. He notes that rtkit is listed as ?recommended for VLC, but that it isn’t apparently needed for VLC to install and work.

                Do you have rtkit installed?

                  Hi stevesr0,

No rtkit on any of my systems

                  Regarding libelogind:
If you take a look at earlier post #80779 from anticapitalista you will see below.

The following NEW packages will be installed:
                  libelogind0 libopenmpt-modplug1 libvlc-bin libvlc5 libvlccore9 vlc vlc-bin vlc-data vlc-plugin-base vlc-plugin-qt vlc-plugin-video-output

I am unable to confirm the, unsubstantiated information on VLC in the post from olsztyn. Quoted below.
                  From #80787:

VLC does by default install libelogind0 for no reason at all, but as I understand it has been modified to not do such thing,
not sure of this, as I do not have it installed…

I do have fully functional VLC on all my system setups, Tested with several videos yesterday including avatar which looks and sounds crap
if there are any player or hardware issues.
Not yet updated everywhere, i.e. @users, due yesterdays little problem.

Just to make more clear what I actually was saying:
                    – rtkit appears to be a recommend for pulseaudio and it appears to be installed during installation of pulseaudio. I did not test if it is just Synaptic installs recommends in general for installs of apps, or in general Debian does this by default.
                    – rtkit suddenly (first time noticed yesterday) appears to be responsible for installation of libelogind0 alongside yesterday’s upgrade. Libelogind0 goes against recent antiX strategy of eliminating elogind0 and libelogind0. Seatd and libseat1 are supposed to perform this function now and were among those upgraded yesterday.
                    – Vlc appears by default to install libelogind0, which again goes against the above mentioned strategy, but I think I remember anticapitalista was making modifications to apps that request libelogind0 installation for no reason, however I am not sure if vlc was one of such. If vlc was not modified then installation of vlc might result in installation of libelogind0. I do not know if vlc requires rtkit though.
                    – Although antiX strategy has been no libelogind0 or elogind, which are about the same as systemd, just without the init part, antiX users still the option of letting libelogind0 installs if some needed package still insists on it. I do not recall if anticapitalista said no to this…

So hopefully the above clarifies yesterday’s observation…

@olsztyn wrote about clarifying, below text does not do so, you already stated in other thread you do not use application VLC so why spread unclear, misleading obfuscating information ?..

Explizit, VLC as stated in previous posts does not require rtkit.
                      as stated in previous posts
                      VLC does require libelogind….
I have installed it on 5 devices running antiX 21 ttoday. 2 with runit rest Sysv. In all cases libelogind was a requirement.
