Hi guys,
I changed to Antix 19_2 three days ago and now I am facing a strange “bug” (?) while playing back music or videos in VLC.
Everytime I stop and start the VLC player it moves a little more upwards to the top.
Until it hides under the menu bar. (I have set the menu bar to the top, because I am used to have a bar at the top since … ever)As soon as VLC hides under the menu bar the only way to get in back somewhere in the middle of the desktop is using “ALT + F7” and then move it around with cursor keys.
I made a few screenshots about this issue, link below.
Any ideas what is going on here with VLC?
Is it a bug in VLC? Or a bug in ICEWM?Is there a way to always start the VLC at a fixed position, somewhere in the middle of the desktop?

::You wonder if it might be a bug with IceWM. Can you do your tests in another window manager (fluxbox and jwm) and let us know.
If the same happens, then vlc is the issue.Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.
antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

libreoffice.libreoffice-calc.geometry: 1003Γ1180+908+0
libreoffice.libreoffice-calc.workspace: 4
libreoffice.libreoffice-writer.geometry: 1350Γ1155+0+0
libreoffice.libreoffice-writer.workspace: 3
Navigator.Pale moon.geometry: 941Γ1173+0+0
Navigator.Pale moon.workspace: 1
claws-mail.Claws-mail.geometry: 941Γ1173+0+0
claws-mail.Claws-mail.workspace: 0To find the geometry setting position a window then
Click bottom Right corner as if you will resize. The coordinates popup.you will need to substitute LO for VLC. how to start on specified desktops if you are interested.
This is in home/icewm/userrname/startup
#!/bin/bash
wmctrl -s 3 #Switches to workspace =4th workspace
libreoffice –norestore –calc &
sleep 4
wmctrl -s 2 #Switches to workspace =3rd workspace
libreoffice –norestore –writer &
sleep 4
wmctrl -s 1 #Switches to workspace 1=2nd workspace
palemoon &
sleep 2
wmctrl -s 0 #Switches to workspace 0=1st workspace
claws-mail &Does not work for you we can fix together, My apps open in specified desktops and at right size on ICEWM start.
I will never go back to messing with shortcuts and mouse to get my workspaces ready to work.I use ICEWM ROX. Not known to me is how to do this with the other desktops.

::For a quick and dirty solution I set the vlc window layer to abovedock in ./icewm/winoptions – using xprop to show me the values I needed.
The vlc window is still going upwards from restart to restart but at least it now stays above the dock/bar. πNext step will be a fixed desktop position for vlc startup.
But that is something for another day.
It’s bedtime now. πBest regards,

::I put in my ~/.icewm/winoptions file
vlc.geometry: 640x480+100+100640×480 is the window size and +100+100 is the offset from the top left corner of your desktop.
Additionally, there’s an option in the vlc preference “Resize interface to video size” that I turn off so that the window size remain the same every time I start a video which my be of different sizes.
Beware of people who knows nothing; they are the ones that won't know that they know nothing.
