      It looks like we need a “nosystemd0” version of the vlc-plugin-base package in order to upgrade VLC in buster, since it now pulls in libsystemd0 (along w/a bunch of other libs). I upgraded last week and (due to the long list of libs) it snuck in libsystemd0 on me and I had to uninstall VLC and go to snapshot.debian.org to get all the .deb(s) for the last VLC version (v 2.2.8-2) and reinstall manually! 🙁

        Just curious Because of the snuck in mentioned and your other thread.

        $ locate 00systemd
        /etc/apt/preferences.d/00systemd

        You have one?

        $ cat /etc/apt/preferences.d/00systemd
        Package: *systemd*
        Pin: origin ""
        Pin-Priority: -1

          Yes, I do!
          This wasn’t in the other OP, but Anti must’ve seen this too and replied a/b it there to save keystrokes. 😀

              That was quick, Thank you!!

              The VLC interface now looks like crap (huge buttons, tiny fonts, old CGA look, etc.), but I know that’s not your fault.

              Thanks again,

              Jim

                Try using qt5ct to set a better set for theme, fonts etc

                  Ok, was able to change the theme, even select a “skin” for the main window, but for all the config windows: the icons still the ugly, flat, default ones; and everything, including scrollbars are like DOUBLE in size. Is there anything else I need installed for VLC to look nice like it USED to?!

                  NOTE: The attached window was HUGE, so I CROPPED it for display here, but it’s still life-size (and I have a 1900×1080 display too)!

                    I really don’t know and I don’t use vlc.

                    This is what progress means *sigh*

                      size

                      a 30-second websearch finds this suggested fix regarding size:

                      export QT_AUTO_SCREEN_SCALE_FACTOR=0

                      You can add the 'export' line in your ~.bashrc file

                        typing qt5ct into a terminal should give all the options including the icons.

                          Please mark “SOLVED!” — Thanks skidoo, your suggestion FIXED it!
                          (Don’t know what you searched for for the quick 30″ answer, but I tried a bunch of googling and found nothing except the qt5ct solution which only partially addressed my pbm). I confess – my wife’s better at google than me though! lol

                          Thanks again to everyone who provided assistance!

                              #shamelessplug – Now that I’ve been playin’ around a bit w/VLC again, I decided to do a little test and found that my “Fauxdacious” (fork of Audaciuos audio-player) that plays videos and DVDs, and MORE) uses less CPU and much less memory than VLC to play the same video! 😀 https://wildstar84.wordpress.com/fauxdacious/
