      HI
      New to the forums.

I posted recently on a thread about not being able to install VMware workstation.

Thanks to some very helpful advice – THANK YOU – I managed to succeed.

BUT- I am now facing another never before seen problem 🙂

WHen I have created my windows 10 VM, it issues a strange error before it boots to the desktop.

—-VMware has encountered an unrecoverable error—

Looking at the vmware trouble shooting does not seem to provide any concrete ideas.

It points me to VMware logs- but I have no idea how to interprete them! ( linux NOOB )

All I can say is that this software was working fine in the last few ubuntu distros I have used?

If anyone can shine a light in this I would be most grateful

      Thanks

I would get support from VMWARE forums. I doubt you will find much help with a tool few of us use.

Some things I saw from your log:

        2020-07-27T17:30:20+01:00[+0.416]| vcpu-0| E001: PANIC: Unexpected signal: 6.
        2020-07-27T17:30:20+01:00[+0.422]| vcpu-0| W003:
2020-07-27T17:30:20+01:00[+0.422]| vcpu-0| W003+ The core dump limit is set to ZERO; no core dump should be expected

Increase your core dump size (right now you have it set at “ZERO”). When an error like this happens, it will save real relevant info in the core dump, which you will need to figure out the error.

2020-07-27T17:30:20+01:00[+0.423]| vcpu-0| I005: Panic: panic from signal, skipping monitor coredump.

2020-07-27T17:30:20+01:00[+0.423]| vcpu-0| I005+ You can also run the "vm-support" script in the Workstation folder directly.
2020-07-27T17:30:20+01:00[+0.423]| vcpu-0| I005: [msg.panic.response] We will respond on the basis of your support entitlement.

The recommendation: To collect data to submit to VMware support, choose “Collect Support Data” from the Help menu.

If I had to guess, I would say it is related to your graphic card (this is me making stuff up). Maybe you need a proprietary driver. I really cannot say.
If no one can help here, VMware community will be a better option.

          Thank you xescure,

Really appreciate you taking the time.

Just cant understand why this program works fine in ubuntu?, on the same hardware?

          – but maybe that is just me not really understanding Linux 🙂

          Cheers

            Install a newer kernel.
Ubuntu comes with a 5.x kernel by default. antiX comes with a 4.9.x kernel by default for better compatibility with older hardware.
Try installing a new kernel from the antiX package installer.

                O.K

                Tried newer Kernel 5.0.5

                Same result 🙁

Sadly gone back to another distro.

However, there is one thought – could it be anything to do with systemd?

The other successful attempts have all been on systemd releases.
                .
If I have time, I shall try to install on an alternative non systemd distro.

                Just a thought – I know nothing:-)

                Cheers
