FI: If you want to try and test nala into antiX21 (amd64 or i386) I have tried into VM and that’s work great (the legacy version)
      https://gitlab.com/volian/nala
“Nala is a front-end for libapt-pkg. Specifically we interface using the python-apt api. (Parallel Downloads)
Especially for newer users it can be hard to understand what apt is trying to do when installing or upgrading.
We aim to solve this by not showing some redundant messages, formatting the packages better, and using color to
show specifically what will happen with a package during install, removal, or an upgrade….”

      nala-legacy_0.11.0_amd64.deb 11.5 MiB August 1, 2022
      nala-legacy_0.11.0_i386.deb 10.8 MiB August 1, 2022

      #then
      apt install nala-legacy_0.11.0_amd64.deb

for example for FR repositories: nala fetch –auto –fetches 3 –country FR
      nala upgrade –no-full –no-autoremove

      See MX forum too.

I’ve had good results whenever I have used Nala. As the description indicates it’s nothing more than a different front end to dpkg, the low level tool.

Debian Sid recommends the use of dpkg, apt get or apt. Specifically does not recommend either dselect or synaptic; the reason is that these two deal with recommended or suggested packages differently than the core package manager and in some cases that’s not a good idea with the ‘unstable’ branch, and that is the one difference between the various package installation tools.

Not positive which way Nala manages ‘recommends’; for those who use Sid it’d be a good idea to find out the answer before using Nala with Sid.

          Hi Brian,

Yes nala is a good idea but mostly for stable release, and with 1 or (2 or 3 mirrors maxi).
I use it into MX since a couple of months with success.

Yeah I have used it occasionally too. However on an every day basis, I have a group of my own alias definitions that I use for package management.
