      I think one issue is that I’m using an older version of initrd.gz
      I updated it and with a bit of fiddling can boot to desktop with adduser 3.130.
      However,dolphin_oracle also had the same issues I had and he had a more up to date initrd.gz.
      We still need to edit a file or two in the remaster and snapshot apps.

      antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

        Thanks for the info…
        My initrd appears to be the following, looking inside the archive:
        VERSION=”8.30.14-x08″
        VERSION_DATE=”Fri, 04 Jun 2021 11:43:21 +0000″
        DEVELOPER=”BitJam”
        No idea if this is still current or needs to be updated, but seems about 1 and half year old.

        In any case thank you for keeping and eye on issues and keeping antiX in good shape. Greatly appreciated.
        I am posting these from LX WM antiX SID runit, elogind-free, but switching back and forth to JWM and IceWM, to make sure all WMs work fine.

          the main change to make is in a script called “Installed-to-live”. there is an adduser command that with 3.129 and below adds /bin/bash as the user login shell, but under 3.130 and up added /usr/sbin/nologin as the shell. when the live system validated users to create home directories for, its looks for users with a login shell defined. since the shell were not defined, then the user home folders were not created, which prevents X for loading.

          I think personal remasters would not be affected.

          either way, fixes are on the way.

            @dolphin_oracle – do you think that fixed remaster deb should include some control depends that *need* adduser 3.130 and later?

              Thank you for detailed assessment and fixes to come.
              My remasters were personal, just to mention…

                no, the is no requirement in the changed remaster for the later version of adduser. the changes made also work with the older adduser.

                and they should be OK for at least buster, bullseye, and bookworm based filesystems. not sure about stretch.
