::I’ve been using one of my older laptops today. This is my Lenovo X201. This series is a Lenovo continuation of the laptop division that Lenovo purchased in it’s entirety from International Business Machines, better known as IBM. One thing about IBM and many Lenovo systems (though perhaps not ALL of them): the ones most like the old IBM Thinkpad series are rock solid. This one doesn’t have backlit keys (I do miss them), and the keyboard on this now aged system may not be quite as perfectly nimble as it may have been, though it’s still solid. Still, this is a GREAT system from which to run antiX, maybe my best system for this purpose because it’s no longer the fastest computer, it’s just a really well made unit that still has plenty of good performance left in it that antiX brings out so well.
I hope that most of you in this forum appreciate how much anticapitalista and the other contributors put into this project and you value them as much as I do. If so, please send kind words of encouragement, your suggestions, but even if you ask for changes or improvements, always remember the great talent and care that has gone into this work for many years now. It comes with hours and hours of volunteer work.
Thank you for everyone who has made antiX what it is today – a lean, efficient distribution that runs on 2005-2015 computers at a time when most other alternatives have been abandoning the great hardware of this era! Huge appreciation from this aging moderator; hurrah to all who continue to expend energy to keep this project thriving and excellent as it has been for many years!

::I used the Lenovo X201 and the Dell Inspiron 5558 again today with antiX 21 runit Base and as usual it worked great.
I also downloaded a release of Slitaz, tried it on the Lenovo and the Dell; even with an Ethernet connection plugged in, I could boot Slitaz, but it wasn’t cooperating with the network, either Wifi or Ethernet. The port here for wired networking may have been turned off because I haven’t seen it work recently, which leaves me having to go elsewhere to run any wired services. Oh well, that’s what eventually happens. Fortunately on systems that support my wireless cards, they work quite well.--

Dear @Brian,
May be you don’t need to go elsewhere in order to try a wired port of the pc where you want to try Slitaz.
What you can do is to use another pc (PC1) as router, through the wifi you get the internet connection, using ConnMan you can use the ethernet as tethering.
With a normal eth cable (or a twisted one), you can connect PC1 with PC-Slitaz, et voilà.m

::Yeah maybe, but except for the academic exercise I question the worth of doing so.
I did enjoy past versions of Slitaz when my user environment was well suited. Now not so much…

::Well, I made it back to antiX with one of my oldest systems, and this one has some real history to it, because it is labelled as a Hewlett-Packard product, but it’s actually a “rebranded” Compaq 5000 desktop series with the rebranded HP name on it. I had one of the old Compaq units; it was my second or third personally owned computer way back around 2000. There’s no doubt that this model, quite a few years later, has several “marks” of a unit built by HP instead of Compaq, and let it also has some “hints” to an earlier architectural design. In any case, this one can still run either newer Liquorix kernels or older antiX kernels. I do have to review the default boot setup because that default setup is using some VGA arguments that are no longer used, so for simpler and more automatic booting, I’ll find a way to change it. Also the past 1-2 times, Connman and cmst have not been “cooperating” here, so I’ve had to revert to a Ceni setup, but that’s working fine. Time permitting, I may get a chance to “look into that too”, but it’s a low priority. This works, it’s an “extra” system, used mostly for verifying usability on older hardware. Anyway, here’s what I’m running today:

::Since I have the video stuff established, at least for this session, and Ceni providing my networking, I’ve been “up” with my 2010 desktop for an hour now.
Time to check out some of those settings and see if there is anything I can “optimize” or alter for a smoother startup that doesn’t mandate a bunch of manual steps. [It IS possible, let’s see if I can still do it promptly; if yes, I’ll do it today; if no, it may remain as “an exercise” for a day with more “spare time available”.

::1) I fixed the default video setup: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT= previously included a vga= setting; I changed it.
2) Will see if I can get Connman/cmst working effortlessly next.Should be a matter of getting rid of excess wpa/ wpa_supplicant stuff.

::@calciumsodium: Thank you for the tribute to our friend and very influential contributor to the 19 and 21 versions of antiX, and one of our most active forum and development helpers until the departure from this forum. We appreciate past and current members and contributors, and if we have more people with the helpful attitude of people with ideas and a willingness to help, this will continue to be a great place.
Appreciation to all developers, testers and contributors; even ideas that are not part of our images can still be useful because snapshot and remastered images can include the features and ideas shared, even if they are NOT in the released distribution. This is one of the wonders of the tools provided by our developers.

::Today is a national holiday in the United States of America. It’s commonly referred to these days as simply “The Fourth of July” because many in the current generation have lost track of the root of many holidays. This one is actually rather important in the context of my native country’s history. It represents the date that a hand-written scroll, using an ancient ink “quill” pen, was authored in SEVENTEEN days. The document is called “The Declaration of Independence”. Ultimately, Congress voted for independence on July 2, but they endorsed the final copy of the Declaration of Independence on July 4. Notes referenced and a few words directly copied from an article at All That’s Interesting – Who wrote the Declaration of Independence?
