Found out through email that I bought IBM T540. Not a T530. Out in the shop right now.

Which means my T430 power adapter won’t fit. Gotta order one today.

Oh well, at least you got a decent system.

By the way, was the T500 series still labelled “IBM” on yours? This series WERE originally
IBM models, but the IBM label dates back to the very low numbered Thinkpad models.
I have a T510 and an X201; both have Lenovo labels; IBM sold that entire division to Lenovo
long ago, more than ten years, probably closer to 20 years ago.

        Yes, I just walked over to my OLD laptop collection, and both models are Lenovo brands;
        yours probably is too.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ThinkPad_T_series – “In December 2004 Lenovo announced the acquisition of the IBM PC division[13] including the ThinkPad brand (at the time, 40% of the PC division was working in China.) ThinkPads were being made by Lenovo’s arch-rival Great Wall Technology.[14]”

“The naming convention for the T series was changed by Lenovo following the release of the ThinkPad T400, T400s, and T500 in July 2008.[18] The Txxp models (like the T61p) were replaced by the W series.[19] Designed as mobile workstations, the W series grew to become Lenovo’s line of performance-oriented laptops.[20] The T series remains Lenovo’s premier line of laptops, aimed at corporate and enterprise users and is praised by users for its outstanding Linux compatibility. The T-p lineup later returned as an irregular T##0p line with only T440p, T460p, T470p and T540p models. They were replaced by the P series.”

These days, Lenovo has the T14, L14, and a few other models; they remain among the better group of systems available; except for a few entry priced versions, their prices reflect it too; not many of us will own them until their age makes them more affordable!

Well, I was real tempted to pull the trigger on a Ibm Yoga instead.

Well, I was real tempted to pull the trigger on a Ibm Yoga instead.

They are all pretty solid systems; it all depends on what your budget permits.
The fairly new stuff is awesome; it’s also expensive. The classic Thinkpad models
              are like tanks; very solid. The original, fairly small ones are reasonable;
the bigger ones, unless really new, are pretty heavy.

They’ve always been among my favorites.

Operating system been the least of my troubleshooting on here. Did not even have to mess with conky when wlan0 changed to wlan1 for hard drive swap out.

Bluetooth, sound, all that stuff works. Reboot is only problem and I don’t think it is operating system malfunction.
Reboot cycles just fine till I get to the IBM logo screen and accepts no input after that.
                      No grub screen of course.

Sometimes I drive a crooked road to get my mind straight.
I don't suffer from insanity. I enjoy every minute off it.
                      Motorcycle racing is rocket science.

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T510 and that thing is built like a tank, and heavy enough to do workouts with it!

Gonna live with re boot problem for now. Robin suggested pulling ram, hard drive, and cd rom. Reseating them. Makes sense. I touched em all.
DVD drive is out of T430. Ram is out of the T430. Hard drive also. I just have too much on plate right now with climate warming up out here
and the wife looking to retire eventually. So maybe I’ll get lucky and after using this for awhile.
It will fix itself. Kinda afeared of breaking it also. So procrastination rules right now.
                            Runs good otherwise.

Sometimes I drive a crooked road to get my mind straight.
I don't suffer from insanity. I enjoy every minute off it.

@rokytnji said: “Yeah. It is the quickest. Chromebook is pretty quick but this has bigger screen.”

That’s interesting because I have a 2019 model Acer Chromebook 715; it contains an 8th Generation Intel core i3 processor and a pretty decent SSD; the sheer speed of the system is what first got me interested in looking at other systems with non volatile memory based solid state drive units. I’m using my HP-14, which is newer, but it has a middle of the road AMD Ryzen 5 5500U processor. It runs well, but for routine Web browsing that Acer remains impressive; the only reason I don’t use it more often is because I’m still interested in different Linux kernels, apps, editors, and utilities. If I become unable or disinterested in such things, that Chromebook will look more attractive; right now, Linux still has a LOT more flexibility; that machine is fast nevertheless, even with the rather low end processor!

Here’s what I’m on now; just about to stop for the evening:

My under 100 budget will always show my limitations. Then there is the CRS thing.

I always like looking at your gear. mutiple cores, etc….. Gives me ideas for later.

Sometimes I drive a crooked road to get my mind straight.
I don't suffer from insanity. I enjoy every minute off it.
                                  Motorcycle racing is rocket science.
