::Can’t stay away too long from antiX; definitely looking forward to the Bullseye release working on my newer hardware.
Meanwhile antiX still works great on my Dell Inspiron 5558, my Lenovo X201 and two other old HP units; a laptop AND a desktop. Here today with:

::I’m going to be away for several days (coming up soon), so I wanted to make sure to update antiX before leaving; note that today I’m using a very recent Liquorix kernel; they’ve been very good once again after a few rare issues a few updates ago.
On this system, every kernel I have works well; I have 4.9, 5.10 antiX kernels (I’ve used the 4.19 kernel with consistently good results here and on my other systems recently too).
Here’s what I’m running today:

::Back with antiX and a brand new Liquorix kernel. Looking promising for me that the Linux 6.0 kernel may work well for me on this hardware; today the 6.0 kernel reached an early Release Candidate status.
Regular antiX kernels will remain 4.9 and 5.10, but newer systems can also use the Liquorix kernels if you so desire…

::Notice that the OLDER kernel definitely uses less memory (no surprise there)!
At least this particular system has PLENTY of memory and CPUs for a wide variety of workloads.
The original system also had a large capacity, (relatively low speed) rotating hard disk drive.
The current system has a modest capacity, but much faster solid state drive with the original SSD technology, so it lacks NVME and any other “newer” capabilities to further add to the speed equation but this system overall is great for use with antiX, and given the overwhelming majority of tasks performed with a Web browser, this is the perfect system – significantly faster than my oldest “cast off” systems that also work well with antiX!So if any of you have an opportunity to pick up an aging Dell Inspiron, especially one like this 5558 model, I recommend it for flexibility, rugged construction, everything EXCEPT that it is fairly heavy and cumbersome as a laptop; there are plenty of lighter models around; if you want to keep your muscles in your arms in good tone, this one CAN be carried around, but it’s best as an occasionally movable portable desktop, or a rugged laptop for arm exercise!

::Today I’m visiting a reinstalled copy of PCLinuxOS. It’s a nice “general purpose” distribution, designed for a completely different purpose than antiX. This distribution is designed as an every day desktop system that can be used for most, if not all every day tasks. It is NOT intended to be “lean and mean”, though it does contain packages that allow you to run many of the same tools that we use here with antiX.
Here’s the info; notice the resource use:
