A newer gaming laptop I confiscated, er, borrowed for testing.

Odd place to post it, but glad you did. I am going to review the material for possible inclusion in our training program for new hires.

        Nice and thank you, @masinick.

“Odd place to post it” – actually, it’s a GREAT place to post it because:

        1) this topic has more posts than most, and the user base that uses it or reads it is actually the INTENDED audience; that is, the novice that can’t do anything with this is not all that likely to pour through these posts.

        2) As the author and creator of this thread, *I* use this post; the information reports allow me to occasionally do comparisons between my systems; the results over a period of time allow pretty decent empirical results.

        3) It’s accessible, yet reasonably well isolated, so only inquisitive eyes are going to notice any of this after a day or two.

So in summary, this is the perfect topic to post such information, at least for my purposes! 🙂

Back to the every day stuff: for a few days the Liquorix kernel and the siduction kernel were somewhat “dormant” with very few changes, but the past two days we’ve had a couple of useful changes and we are WELL into what I believe is the STABLE 6.8 kernel, (though these are the cutting edge, first day versions for many of these updates; they’ve proven the test of time. With the siduction kernel, which is a Sid-based Debian kernel and the Liquorix kernel, which can be used anywhere, but comes from a background very similar to siduction, each of these are VERY GOOD. When I say VERY GOOD, I mean that in well over a dozen years I’ve had exactly ONE unstable or unusable kernel; I backed off to the previous kernel and got rid of the bad one; within a day or two, a fix was available and I have NEVER experienced any other issue! I can accept ONE failure compared to a couple of THOUSAND good kernel updates! Excellent overall quality; I’m sure that Steve Damentz was disappointed with that ONE in a thousand too!

Notice that the Liquorix kernel is back to getting updated multiple times per week; we’re well into the 6.8 series kernels now: 6.8.6-1-liquorix-amd64 as shown in the previous note. I have this kernel set up for antiX 23.1 Full runit, antiX-23.1_amd64 init-diversity, and antiX 23 Full runit.

The siduction kernel was dormant for a while too, and it’s now in the 6.8 series too, but theirs did not get updated today, at least not as early in the day as the others; I’ll probably see an update from them the next time I update their system.

Once B_ALLOW_UPDATE=’true’ the commands inxi -U and pinxi -U will update packages; I keep my own private copies so I don’t have to use sudo each time I update my personally owned instances of these software tools.
