          I’m have to create another remaster/respin of antiX 23.1 Full runit; yesterday after I went through all of my installed instances, I moved over to some of my USB images, thinking that one of them was already a respin; instead I found TWO versions of antiX 23.1 Full runit, so I’ll rewrite one of those images as a remaster; my particular strategy is to have a few of these, which I can use to reconstruct or reinstall any of my systems.

          That way, if I lose something all I have to do is reinstall one of my remasters and update; IF I create and redo my remastered images occasionally that also reduces the number of update to perform if I have to use one as a backup. Yes, I can use my current collection of images to install and reinstall, but once that’s done, without the remaster the recovery strategy would have to be reinstall from a release image, add the desired packages, appearance preferences, update the changes to packages since the release, THEN it’s ready to use and remaster; if instead I have a retained remaster, a recovery procedure simply involves reinstalling the remaster and upgrade the environment; better still, if the remaster is occasionally recreated, that further shortens the update and recovery cycle, hence that is my preferred strategy, though I can work in an emergency from either of these scenarios to meet my use case and system setup.

            @techore, I like the options you’ve chosen for your report and I’ll have to try them out later when I get to each of my test systems; thanks for sharing them.

              @masinick, you are welcome!

              I would recommend using ‘pstree -GT’. For some reason -G is not working for me which is why you do not see it above. Just tested on another OS and it worked, so I borked something.

              It’s an adventure! 😀

              and I prefer your more detailed inxi reports but I am testing so keeping them brief, thus inxi -v3.

                I have not yet explored any options for the pstree command. Now that I know about them I will get into it later today.

                As a “senior citizen” I am about to get some pool water exercise and then I’ll get back to the computer. So far today I only updated siduction and used my smartphone for other communication. It has poor typing facilities as a touchscreen device but the performance is excellent otherwise.

                The siduction distribution is working well and I have not been “badly poisoned” with systemd “rays”! 😁

                    @masinick, you are welcome!

                    Have you figured out a way to use pstree where it won’t use back ticks? I keep having to do a ‘s/`/’/’ to replace them. I tried ‘pstree -GT’ which should work, but when pasting from my terminal, it just converted them back to backticks. May be a problem on my end.

                    I haven’t had that issue but I did at least locate a few handy options and I shared them in my most recent report just above this one.

                    I’m using antiX 23 Full runit right now, and I’m happy with the way it works, but I’ll comment again about it: we made some really nice strides when we made the changes from antiX 21/22 to antiX. Having BOTH antiX 23 and antiX 23.1, when I updated my themes and wallpapers to actually use what is provided instead of forcing stuff in place, I found that we made several useful changes with our 23.1 update that I hadn’t realized until I cleaned things up. Functionally they both work great, but for those who can use the newest releases, each time we’ve brought out a new release we have added several very nice changes with a much more restrained impact on resources than most other distributions. At least on my HP-14 I can really appreciate the changes and improvements.

                      @techore I just ran a pstree command where I noticed the back tick for the first time; I have not seen anything other than your comments about it; your substitute command is as good as any solution if there is not an explicit method included in pstree.

                      pstree -A

                      This produces flat output with the back ticks!

                              I’ve been talking about either remastering or taking a snapshot to quickly access a version that is very close to what I use on a regular basis.

                              I did an ISO snapshot and a Live USB Maker image of the snapshot, which is the antiX 23.1 Full runit image I use to manage my HP-14, so it’s important to have one; this is a vital part of my backup strategy. Yes, I also have images of the images as they were released, but this is better; it won’t take that long IF I have to replace the installed version for any reason, because this is an image of what I’m running as of today, April 16, 2024. This is an EXCELLENT example of just how useful our tools are. Simply taking an image of this system, I can run it live when I’m on the go, and I can use it in my backup and restore strategy, doing this as often as I wish to have instances that I can install just to start over or refresh my configuration.

                              Here’s what the live one looks like as opposed to the installed one; not much different, EXCEPT if you look closely, you’ll see that this one is running off the live image on USB, and it can see the rest of my INSTALLED images too.

                                Sometimes I drive a crooked road to get my mind straight.
                                I don't suffer from insanity. I enjoy every minute off it.
                                Motorcycle racing is rocket science.
