I now have current snapshots built for two of the three antiX images that I have installed on my HP-14 laptop, both of which are based on antiX 23.1 – the Full runit release and the init-diversity community offering from @ProwlerGr. What remains to get a fresh USB ISO snapshot is antiX 23 Full runit.

Completed the third of three USB ISO snapshot images. Here is an information report from the antiX 23 Full runit image:

Back with the antiX 23.1 init-diversity USB snapshot; wanted to make certain that the images themselves were not running hot. After building a few of the snapshots in the same day, the generation of the snapshot using all 12 of the processes available drove the ACPI heat up just over 60 °C, about 15-16 ° more than the usual operating temperature, so I wanted to see if it would return back to normal after a bit of rest; the positive answer is yes; we are comfortably under 50 °C in all temp categories. It does seem to run 1-2 degrees warmer when using USB compared to how the same image runs when running from the SSD.

@techore Interesting combination of aXd and the dusk window manager.
I used to experiment with all sorts of combinations and found them quite interesting,
and I still do today, but as a retired person who is slower and less motivated
to do as much as I did in the past, today I confine the majority of my interests
to occasional reading and some rare experimentation.

Installing the init-diversity instance of antiX is the greatest experimentation
I’ve done; most of my remaining “experiments” are quite minor – occasionally trying
out a different text editor or Web browser, and trying to keep up with kernel
modifications (though the ones I use are still fairly mainstream and rarely present
                any conflict or difficulty).

Nice to see that you try stuff that suits your own interests!

My daily driver.. a lightly used LG UltraPC which would be amazing if its keyboard was not the worse I have used.. ever! I built and installed aXd (antiX-dusk) release candidate this morning. The intent is to use it for a week then publish for folks to give me feedback. I do have some oddities with the mix of bash and zsh configs. I will get it puzzled out in time.

@techore Thank you for explaining about your system. I’ll keep an eye out for what you continue to do with this effort; sounds interesting and yet another nice example of what is possible for creating your own custom version of antiX!

antiX and its tools are amazing. I am a fan. 🙂

What differs from the antix-dusk (aXd) spin versus the previous one, antix-dwm, is I tried to reduce the number of modifications using scripts as part of the build and moved to using debian packages. That endeavor nearly broke me–you may remember me emailing you for a lifeline. I came very close to giving up. As I recollect, it took me two months to get a sufficient handle on building proper debian packages and, later, I still had to make compromises due to my inadequate knowlege of dh_make. I still cannot figure out how to properly package rust and other languages. Hopefully, I will remedy that in time.

I am over twenty-five packages to build this spin with more to come. It is much improved over the previous attempts and I will strive to continue improving the spin and myself.

Long post, sorry. I do want to say “thank you!” to all for the help and encouragement.
