Before I share more, I forgot to mention something else: while running init-diversity in the s6-66 instance this morning, the IceWM window manager actually failed; one of the few times I’ve ever personally experienced it; between s6-66 and IceWM, the failure was gracefully handled and the interface offered to restart the failed window manager; that worked very smoothly and there were no other difficulties.

So there we have it; IceWM isn’t perfect either, but I was quite pleased with the manner in which the event was handled; nothing was lost as a result of the event.

Now I’m on my primary instance of antiX 23.1 Full runit. This one is definitely the best; it has been stable, no issues have arisen in my personal use cases, no failure, no rising operational temperatures, just what I’m looking for in an efficient every day environment.

Charging the new battery today. It was dead this morning. I probably left the laptop on . Closed the lid. Went to bed.
I’ve been known to do that.

Are all of your Thinkpad models running well now @rokytnji? These are solid systems, and I’ve always enjoyed them!
I have one Thinkpad at the moment a Thinkpad X201; it is smaller and lighter than the T series.

The much newer T14 and L14 series look REALLY good; they are beyond my price range; one of my bachelor friends
who is still in the workforce has something like EIGHT laptops; nearly all of them are either T14 or L14 with
perhaps one or two exceptions. He likes to put themed covers on all of them, juice them up with GOBS of memory
and 1-2 TB SSD; huge overkiil, but he can run KDE and games on any of them because of their speed and power.

He likes to put themed covers on all of them, juice them up with GOBS of memory
and 1-2 TB SSD; huge overkill, but he can run KDE and games on any of them because of their speed and power.

Notice that I am running my 2011 vintage Lenovo Thinkpad X201 laptop today. Some routine things work well here; updating the inxi or pinxi information takes much longer than it does on my HP-14, which is more than a decade newer.
Nevertheless there are quite a few good things about this system; the keyboard is pretty good. The keystrokes are longer and deeper than most modern systems, but the feel is solid and reassuring. Though this system is no longer new, it is still solid and robust; this unit is significantly smaller than the T400 and T500 series Thinkpads; this one is slightly heavier than my HP-14 but considerably lighter than the T510!

I’m going to try one or two of the recent USB images I created and see how well they run on this X201.

This one works fine here too, actually it connected quicker than the antiX 23 instance; I've been saying that antiX 23.1 works better on my HP-14; so the same is true with this Lenovo Thinkpad X201 too -

Playing around with many different live images on my Lenovo Thinkpad X201; this one’s cool – it’s an OLD version of antiX 21, and it had an OLD version of Firefox – in fact, on the image I had my trilogy of Firefox Release, Firefox Development Edition and Firefox Nightly – BUT these are 2-3 years old.

Well it worked anyway; needed an update, but it cleanly went out and updated to the latest Firefox Nightly and did it without choking.

Had to run a couple of pinxi updates because it was SO old – and pinxi changed locations; so it updated to a newer one, which then could be updated to the latest, and Voila! It works…
