          Recently re-discovered this 2 Ghz Dell Inspiron 710m running 1 Gb of RAM. Machine came pre-loaded with 32-bit Mint Maya, but seems sluggish on a Pentium M. Tried MX live 23.3, but it was also sluggish (and had to FORCE PAE).
          AntiX is running live, but I’m having issues getting WiFi running. I finally stumbled across the right combination – using it now, but suspect I’ll get more experience after next reboot.

            Connman/cmst and Ceni are the two network managers provided in antiX and we have a WiFi switch tool to check out each of them.

                    @ile, yeah, this, believe it or not, is “only” an AMD Ryzen 5, not seven, and not Intel Core i7 or the newest Intel Core i9 13th Generation, can you IMAGINE what THOSE beasts might do?

                    If you look at @rokytnji’s 2-3 Lenovo Thinkpad models, he has a Thinkpad T510 and a T530; these are older than mine, but considering HOW MUCH older these models are, they are super impressive. I have an old Lenovo Thinkpad X201; as an old model I’ve had to carefully clean it a few times; prior to extremely careful removal of excess dust, they’d run rather hot. But now, that thing, which is 12-15 years old, still kicks out between 19-20000 bogosity, impressive for an old model.

                    As for my HP-14 there is only one thing I miss – a backlit keyboard. I had that in an 11th Generation Intel Core i5 in an Acer Aspire A515-55 model. I have to WARN others about Acer models with Linux – YES, it’s POSSIBLE to use them, AND they offer some of the BEST price/performance ratios of ANY recent hardware, HOWEVER – this is my huge caution; their administration console is the worst thing I’ve ever seen in my life! I wanted to reset my environment, including my password, and I locked myself right out of it – FOR GOOD. At first, I was intent on fixing it; after days of contacting their help teams (which were useless), attempts to completely reset to factory and start over, NOTHING worked, so I reinitialized as best as possible and GAVE it to Good Will.

                    For American branded systems (with parts from all over, but probably mostly Chinese), I like Dell, Hewlett-Packard, and Lenovo for my systems; I’ve considered ASUS too but have no personal experience; I recommend these three; NEVER had an issue with ANY system, desktop or laptop from these three brands. As you may have noticed, HP uses Toshiba for some of their parts, not sure if those parts come from Japan or China, but they are good and quite solid.

                    IF I go for an even more capable system soon, it may come from an “Amazon Prime Days” or pre “Amazon Prime Days” event; those are from where I can get fairly current low to mid range equipment for some VERY reasonable prices. My BEST deal ever in this came in an Acer model, the Acer Chromebook 715; that’s the one EXCEPTION I think is worthwhile from Acer; low priced, some of the best Chromebook models; @rokytnji has used MrChromebook to make these work with Linux; I’ve kept mine running Chrome OS – that’s where I use a Linux kernel with a low priced proprietary Google interface; I have Linux, about 90% antiX, on my remaining hardware.

                    So if you see another high bogomips model from me within the next year, chances are it will come from either a Prime Day sale or a Black Friday early sale; otherwise I’ll hold fast with what I have because you’re right; it runs REALLY well, so I will ONLY add to it or change it if I see a deal for more than $100, preferably $150-$200 off some low to midrange Intel Core i5 or i7 12th or 13th gen system; otherwise I’ll stay with what I have for another year or two.

                          Swapped battery because I forgot why I put the other one away. It reminded me when it went dead a hour later.
                          It is the same one I am posting here. Put this one back in after being reminded.

                          $ acpi -i
                          Battery 0: Discharging, 79%, 04:34:15 remaining
                          Battery 0: design capacity 6600 mAh, last full capacity 6600 mAh = 100%

                          Laptop had hit the floor from a 3 foot tall computer desk with a cooling pad on it.
                          I guess it broke the battery that is only good for a hour some how.

                          $ inxi -FJ -rt -xxxc0

                          Everything else is working OK. My freaking cats are expensive to maintain.

                          Sometimes I drive a crooked road to get my mind straight.
                          I don't suffer from insanity. I enjoy every minute off it.
                          Motorcycle racing is rocket science.

                            Good battery here, though much lower capacity than yours:
