::One of the things I was concerned about when running like this for a long time was something mentioned earlier by someone – USB getting very hot.
In my case I tried to put as much of this instance BACK into my persistent state and I think it’s working.
The USB is still on and it is warm but not super hot;This is a very interesting observation. I am always running Live except when I run as Frugal. I have not noticed usb flash plugs to get hot though, just warm.
But I run them mostly with no persistence, as Read I/O, so no writing. I think (please correct me if I am wrong) usb flash media tends to get warmer when performing lots of Write I/O…
Thanks for reporting this interesting observation…Live antiX Boot Options (Previously posted by Xecure):

::Back with my frugal persistence – I saved a LOT so I wast hoping that it would fit; it DID, I’m back, and it even remembered my browser settings and the two tabs I had open. Nice! I may use this on the Dell and not worry about the problems with those kernels; then again, I’m a retired software engineer. While I wasn’t a great developer; my coding skills were on the slow side, my systems administration skills and testing skills were solid; these days the young test engineers are faster, but I’m thorough; I’m not sure that I can leave those “Waiting for /dev…” messages alone. I still think I need to update my firmware on this Dell, so when I’m back to 100% health I’ll put that on my list; I’m thinking that I may be able to grab the firmware image or images and put them somewhere in the /boot/efi space – I think there’s enough space there; if so that will be on my list; otherwise I’ll find another location and work on that; maybe it is one of the things that still keeps this Dell just a “bit off” when it comes to the setup; otherwise things have been going well here; the frugal persistence has done extremely well!

::Yeah, I think that’s what’s keeping me in good shape here too @olsztyn:
I don’t write too much on my systems UNLESS I’m updating software and therefore writing updates back in; I did that at the BEGINNING of this exercise, so when I update again I’m hoping the actual updates will be in the persistent state on the hard drive, which is an SSD.--

::Back on my Acer Aspire 5 A515-55, where I have the entire system devoted to antiX; I am able to boot from a choice of several kernels here; the other day they were all working. If you don’t hear from me about it tonight or tomorrow morning, they STILL work! 🙂

::I’ve been updating the firmware on a couple of my systems. I successfully updated the firmware on my Dell Inspiron 5558; I’m currently collecting information and reading to obtain the correct drivers for my Acer Aspire. The Aspire 5 lineup is just as expansive as the Dell Inspiron lineup, but I’ve owned the Dell since the middle of the previous decade, so most of my research on that model has already been completed; the Aspire, though I’ve had it a couple of years, is something I’m just now exploring when it comes to firmware documentation; should be good bedtime reading!

::Hello Mister Brian and Everyone
antiX is known for running on old hardware
and here You are expounding on modern hardware Thank you for demonstrating antiX versatility tugging on both ends. (and in between. with the latest software)
antiX referred to as lightweight I disfavor;
antiX is ready to do all the heavy lifting in the repositories.September 16, 2022 at 3:49 am #89092Moderator

::Thank you; I actually have a couple of older systems built in the 2005-2011 time period, two laptops and one desktop. I don’t have any more 32-bit systems; 4-5 years ago I had 2 32-bit systems plus the Dell 5558 I talk about often, but a couple of decades ago, I had a nice group of old 32-bit systems, ranging from a Toshiba laptop, Compaq desktop 5000, Dell D600, and Dell Dimension 4100. I had a few HP models too plus a few relics I could use for replacement power supplies and memory cards; as a retiree in a small apartment, even what I have now is really stretching it!
Maybe I’ll have a bit of time to use an old system, possibly the Lenovo X201; that’s the “newest” of my old stuff, around 2011 vintage.

::I’ve been able to update several scripts and I’ve started to configure my personal IceWM toolbar, menu, and preferences. I have at least a usable configuration, one which I can now fine tune at my own convenience.
