::I’m here now with my HP 14-fq1025nr laptop (AMD Ryzen 5 5500U).
Starting to put 1-2 distros on it, will eventually use 5 distros here.--

::Here with MX Linux; about to reinstall anti21; I installed antiX 21 runit base x64; it appeared to contain only a 4.9 kernel; this is recent hardware, so it needs a newer kernel; I’m going to grab runit full instead and reinstall.
Notice that I didn’t waste much time in grabbing a personal copy of pinxi to maintain myself.
Here is my current setup:pinxi -b System: Host: BrianMX Kernel: 5.18.0-4mx-amd64 arch: x86_64 bits: 64 Desktop: Xfce v: 4.16.0 Distro: MX-21.2_ahs_x64 Wildflower August 28 2022 Machine: Type: Laptop System: HP product: HP Laptop 14-fq1xxx v: N/A serial: <superuser required> Mobo: HP model: 887C v: 59.11 serial: <superuser required> UEFI: AMI v: F.18 date: 11/26/2021 Battery: ID-1: BAT0 charge: 40.6 Wh (99.8%) condition: 40.7/40.7 Wh (100.0%) CPU: Info: 6-core AMD Ryzen 5 5500U with Radeon Graphics [MT MCP] speed (MHz): avg: 1497 min/max: 1400/4056 Graphics: Device-1: AMD Lucienne driver: amdgpu v: kernel Device-2: Chicony HP TrueVision HD Camera type: USB driver: uvcvideo Display: x11 server: X.Org v: 1.20.14 driver: X: loaded: amdgpu unloaded: fbdev, modesetting, vesa dri: radeonsi gpu: amdgpu resolution: 1920x1080~60Hz OpenGL: renderer: AMD RENOIR (LLVM 14.0.5 DRM 3.46 5.18.0-4mx-amd64) v: 4.6 Mesa 22.0.5 Network: Device-1: Realtek driver: rtw89_8852ae Drives: Local Storage: total: 238.47 GiB used: 9.35 GiB (3.9%) Info: Processes: 316 Uptime: 35m Memory: 7.1 GiB used: 2.23 GiB (31.4%) Shell: Bash pinxi: 3.3.21-17--

::I was able to get a properly functioning network on installations of MX Linux (first), could not initially get networking installed on antiX (second) or siduction (third).
Today I installed Xubuntu’s latest LTS; EXTREMELY long, slow load and installation, but it works fine once installed (fourth).
Finally, I figured that PCLinuxOS would install and work (it does; fifth).I’m here now with PCLinuxOS; here is the configuration:

::Cool! That’s older than anything I have here. The technology in that laptop is similar to the Dell Dimension 4100 I had from 2001-2009.
I probably tested more distributions on that system than anything else; the next closest was a 17″ Gateway 2000 PA6A, so large and heavy that I referred to it as a portable desktop rather than a laptop; in fact I also had a Lenovo 3000 T410 laptop.
I got rid of both just before I retired and moved to South Carolina; reason: not many 32-bit OS and I could always run antiX on my Dell Inspiron 5558 laptop (64-bit).
The old relics I picked up from my brother in law are 10-15 years old but they’re all 64-bit. They all work with antiX but they’re really slow compared to the Dell and my new HP 14 series laptop (it’s a 2021 model) already ‘out of date’ and sold mainly as excess inventory; that’s generally how I buy my “newer” equipment.

::https://github.com/lwfinger/rtw89 – this is the wireless driver that is not working on antiX on my brand new HP Laptop 14-fq1xxx (14-fq1025nr).
This driver is properly implemented on MX Linux, PCLinuxOS, and Xubuntu. It’s not correctly implemented on antiX 21 runit full amd64, and it doesn’t work correctly on siduction either.Comparing /lib/firmware/rtw89 on antiX and MX Linux, I found out why – our antiX firmware only has one of two files in this directory.
I tried copying the file over; that didn’t solve the problem; maybe there is a configuration program pointing to these files that also has to be updated; still more to figure out on my part; meanwhile, our implementation of the rtw89 wireless driver is incomplete. Once I investigate more, I’ll try to formalize a well-written defect report.--
