::I’m really happy with the way my HP 14fq1025nr laptop has been functioning, particularly with antiX 21 runit!
Besides being a reasonably good performing laptop, the 14″ size is plenty for most activities (and I do have other larger screen display options available to me).
Benchmarks put it in the middle of its class, often outperforming equal or more expensive models in the mid-range market:
https://laptopsreviewer.com/product/amd-ryzen-5-5500u/Needless to say I have been quite pleased with this and I’ll do more “homework research” before getting another system!
One of my friends who is more aware of hardware performance and cost/performance metrics told me that this is one of the better models in my price range, and based on my reading and my own observations I agree with my friend and with the reviews.--

::I just found an article that rates this slightly aged laptop as their #1 budget laptop under $500.
https://www.forbes.com/sites/forbes-personal-shopper/article/best-laptops-under-500/
(Another article also likes a Lenovo model with the same processor; I think it’s about $100 more expensive though).

Congrats on best laptop for the price, particularly one working with antiX 21 runit… As I think I remember you had some more configuration work with the Dell one, kernel 5.10…
My inventory is much more modest, the newest laptops being from 2012 – Thinkpads 520 and X220 – i7…
Bought them a few years ago for less than $200 each…Live antiX Boot Options (Previously posted by Xecure):

::@olsztyn: Yes, I did have a few minor issues with the Dell, but at no time was I ever unable to run antiX.
On the other hand, my ex system, the Acer Aspire A515-55 and my current system, the HP, have taken some effort, but I’ve been successful, and in fact, I’m here now with the HP. One reason the “not that old” Acer is gone is because I repeatedly had issues with the BIOS on that system. I lost it entirely for nearly a year, and fortunately I was still able to use my distributions. However, a few weeks ago I figured out how to recover the BIOS; that had unanticipated consequences, because when I first got the system, I had set up a BIOS password, needed only when I first turned on the system, but that, in turn, would allow me to access my systems, based on a selected configuration. Also unfortunately, that password was elusive; there were no hints available, and if it was on a slip of paper somewhere, that paper is long gone; hence that system is no longer, without weeks or months of research, possible to work, so I sent it to Goodwill; good luck to them or whoever to reset it and then use it, resell it or whatever. That led me to the HP; I have several other older systems, the Dell Inspiron 5558 is the next newest, 3-4 others are 10-15 years old.’

::I had something odd happen a little while ago; all of a sudden all networking on antiX disabled; I even went to Ceni; it started, but didn’t connect to anything.
I rebooted, and the system came up, but then connman didn’t show any network interface.
Rebooted to siduction and all is well. Will try again later. Until just a short while ago, everything on the system listed above was working just fine.--

::Picked up two 17 year old dell latitude D610s for twenty bucks. Put antix19 on both and happy with it. Both are set up about the same. I use them everyday for surfing the web, reading both local papers and the do all I need for those tasks. One I have loaded scoring for over two hundred bluegrass and country music songs as I play in a couple of music groups and it is a great help when we jam or practice. The other I take down to my shop when I am working on old tractors or boat motors. I load repair manuals on it so I don’t have to print paper copies when working in the shop. I am 83 years old and not a computer geek so I am still reading and searching this forum when I have a problem and so far it has been a great help. Did upgrade the RAM to 2gb with some memory I salvaged from other old broken computers I got for nothing. Still trying how to make bootable USB’s of the current running systems but figure I will eventually figure that out.
