::Back to my trusty older Dell Inspiron 5558 laptop. I no longer have any 5.10 kernels here, so if I need to test any of them, I’ll need to pull one back in.
Since there “appears” to be a few problems with the most recently updated 5.10 kernel, I’ll wait until the next update to test 5.10 again. Here with the most recent kernel I have installed:

::@rokytnji: since you have a system that uses the 5.10 kernel, is it possible to try out 5.10.153 (updated today) on that system and see if it works on your system?

I waited for the second kernel, saw someone else got it working and then tried it too.Much better than the previous build.

::Yeah, well about 6-7 years ago I only had 32-bit hardware and I’m a distro hopper. The number of distributions even having a 32-bit image kept dwindling, which made those systems less usable for distro hop testing, so I picked up the Dell Inspiron 5558 and that did me well for several years. Then a couple of years ago I got a newer Chromebook, and it SO obliterated the performance of the 5558 that I looked around for a moderately priced 64-bit laptop with a backlit keyboard. I found one and it was indeed MUCH faster, plus I got a good deal…

::Speaking of “distro hopping”, I’m here with one of the other distributions I’ve used many times on and off over the years: siduction.
On the Acer Aspire 5 A515-55 laptop I had previously, this one was far and away the fastest distribution I’ve run since I started getting my own equipment.
In spite of running on top of the “Unstable” Debian Sid, it’s only the package infrastructure that’s constantly changing; it’s a pretty solid system, more solid, in fact, than MANY commercial systems.Once or twice I’ve looked into things like the kernel parameters and other things that can affect the way that systems run. While on one hand, simply tuning the kernel one way or another isn’t the only factor, and the overall performance doesn’t vary all that much, when I system IS tuned SPECIFICALLY for immediate response to interactive commands, you may notice that 1) the system boots quickly and 2) when you press the Enter key or any key that provides immediate tactile feedback – even like typing in a text box, such as this, the response is IMMEDIATE.
So it is as I’m typing now. Can’t say for certain that this entry will POST immediately on the forum (because of Captcha and other concerns), yet as I type each character, at least on this distro, I see what I type IMMEDIATELY.

::Thanks! I’m having lots of fun with it. ‘Dead’ laptop that I picked up for $20 US. When I saw that antiX worked so well on it, I was hooked.
I am running Firefox as the browser – the version that’s in the distro. It works great. I try to only keep two tabs open at once though!
I didn’t see your build of OpenOffice yet, but I will take a look and get it installed.

::The “older” hardware I have in my corner collection are all “cast offs” from other people.
I’ve given a couple of them away already and may do so again in the near future.
… but first, I will do some more testing antiX and various kernels and options on some of the old models.--

::As noted in the test kernel thread, I’m here with the Lenovo X201 to test the 5.10.153 kernel on different hardware. It works BETTER here than it works on the Dell Inspiron 5558; functionally it works correctly on both laptops, but it’s less sensitive here; it just does what it’s supposed to do.
While this hardware is OLDER than the Dell, it’s also higher end hardware for the time period in which it was created, so within the design parameters of the system, this one is a midrange to upper midrange, whereas the Dell is decent, but nothing particularly notable; the results show; this old box does alright!inxi -zv6 System: Kernel: 5.10.153-antix.1-amd64-smp arch: x86_64 bits: 64 compiler: gcc v: 10.2.1 Desktop: IceWM v: 3.2.0 dm: slimski Distro: antiX-21-runit_x64-base Grup Yorum 30 October 2021 base: Debian GNU/Linux 11 (bullseye) Machine: Type: Laptop System: LENOVO product: 3249CTO v: ThinkPad X201 serial: <superuser required> Chassis: type: 10 serial: <superuser required> Mobo: LENOVO model: 3249CTO serial: <superuser required> BIOS: LENOVO v: 6QET66WW (1.36 ) date: 05/31/2011 Battery: ID-1: BAT0 charge: 79.3 Wh (100.0%) condition: 79.3/84.2 Wh (94.2%) volts: 12.2 min: 10.8 model: Panasonic 42T4696 serial: <filter> status: full Memory: RAM: total: 7.57 GiB used: 422.7 MiB (5.5%) RAM Report: permissions: Unable to run dmidecode.
