      Yup.

This recent system cost a few bucks but it is actually a low-midrange unit so for a recently retired software professional it wasn’t too much. I understand not everyone is able to afford new ones; I won’t be able to get many more, at least not often and they won’t be high end systems!

For anyone reading, inxi -Fxz provides a fairly complete overall status on your system, inxi -b provides a fairly short summary of the system and there are information levels 1-8 that produce increasing levels of detail.

The inxi command also has help with the options and capabilities of the tool that can be explored.

My only caution about the last link, and h2 will tell you the same thing, is that a lot of the information in the last link, while potentially of some use, is nevertheless years old and dated; the tool itself is frequently updated.

Running live antiX 21 full iso live usb on my Kali Linux Dell P22 chromebook.

I broke Kali deleting my /swap partition and the grow part threw errors since I tried it while running. Duh. Forgot.
Using antiX gparted right now to fix kali corrupted partition installation that won’t boot anymore.
Nice the live iso booted right up with no hiccups.
Curiosity is the only reason that kept Kali on here. I will probably give in and make this a antiX 22 chromebook later on.
Am curious to see if my gparted fix is gonna work.

RE: “Firefox journey”: “You’ve just been upgraded to Firefox Nightly 109!”

I mentioned earlier today in the Firefox Release thread that all of the variations of the Firefox Web Browser were due to be updated today, and this now accounts for the ones I most often use.

Version number listed in the “About Nightly” is now 109.0a1 (2022-11-15) (64-bit).

As for some of the inxi options, here are a few (but not ALL) options; use inxi –help to read about the current options you choose to use.

-F Show Fuller output for inxi. Triggers all uppercase line options as well as -s and -n.
-G Show Graphic card information (card, x type, resolution, glx renderer, version).
-z Adds security filters for IP addresses, Mac, and user home directory name.
-v Script verbosity levels. Verbosity level number is required.
                        Supported levels: 0-6 Example: inxi -v 4
0 – Short output, same as: inxi
                        1 – Basic verbose, like old -d basic. -S -C -G -D (basic form) -I
2 – Adds networking card (-N), Machine (-M) data, and shows basic hard disk data (names only). Same as: inxi -b
3 – Adds advanced CPU (-C), network (-n) data, and switches on -x advanced data option.
                        4 – Adds partition size/filled data (-P) for (if present):/, /home, /var/, /boot
                        Shows full disk data (-D)
                        5 – Adds audio card (-A); sensors (-s), partion label (-l) and UUID (-u).
                        6 – Adds full partition data (-p), unmounted partition data (-o), cd/dvd data (-d).
                        -x Show extra data
                        Additional Options:
                        -h –help This help menu.
-H This help menu, plus developer options.

                          I’m “out and about” today.

I did get a little time on my newest system this morning; most of it was spent updating software on the several distributions I have installed, including antiX.

I’m providing “senior citizens” transportation back from an appointment early this afternoon and I have a monthly resident community meeting mid afternoon, plus my wife and I are going to her brother’s house this evening to watch our nephew while they go to the theater!

How DARE I? Today I’m sharing information about another distribution, though it’s probably one that several of us either use or have used; it’s called siduction, and it has frequently been among my collection of distributions for MANY years.

Historically, this distribution dates back to Kanotix; several people on the project worked with Kanotix when that project used Debian Sid packages. When that changed, quite a few on the team forked off a completely different distribution based on Debian Sid called sidux. That was one of the first great Debian Sid based distributions. After several years, disagreements arose and some people left, and others formed aptosid, which lasted a few years and it was renamed or reformed as siduction, which has survived ever since.

The siduction distribution is as close to sidux as anything I’ve seen over the past 15 years; it is solid, and despite a Debian Sid software base, it has been rock solid since I’ve returned to using it.

With that said, here is the basic information that I collected here today from the HP-14 where I also run antiX:

Incidentally in years past I created an antiX Core distribution with a Sid code base and a light-middle weight desktop consisting of reasonably efficient Xfce tools and desktop components. It worked very well, and the appearance, except for the wallpaper, was remarkably similar to what the team created when the MEPIS project ended and the MX Linux effort was conceived; the only main difference was that MX Linux stuck with stable sources and my implementation used a Sid base…
