      Glad things are working better.

This kernel series – the entire 5.10 group based on the Debian 5.10 kernel is useful, except that it does, and has been problematic for some systems and terrific on others.

With our overall strategy of retaining and supporting multiple long term support kernels, this is acceptable. As a recent laptop owner AND an owner of several old systems I can tell you that this works well for a couple of them. Oddly enough my Dell Inspiron laptop has usually worked well with anything – until the 5.10 kernels; yes, I can get some of them working but it’s easier to just grab a Liquorix kernel for that particular system and my recent vintage HP-14 laptop.

It would be nice to have one newer kernel selectable on the full image for computer systems under 5 years old, though I have figured out ways to copy newer kernels, modules and firmware from other partitions; it would be easier if such components were available; MX Linux AHS helps me with a workaround.

Today, Saturday, November 19, 2022 (already!) I am once again using antiX on my HP-14, but I’m moving around on Web browsers, using one at the moment that I don’t use very often.
I have four tabs open, and one advantage of this one is that the sound works, so I have headphones on listening to music as I’m browsing this morning.

Sometimes I use a Linux kernel on a system that’s barely recognizable as anything RELATED to Linux – the Google infrastructure and the Chromebook.

I’m well aware that even the mention of “Google”, “Microsoft”, or “Apple” gets some people going. Not too long ago, I found a group of UNIX enthusiasts who enjoy the Next derivatives of UNIX – translate that to the commercial BSD/Next/Apple proprietary infrastructure behind one of the most profitable corporations, the one that Steve Jobs conceived and turned into a UNIX-like system with a complex, but still usable and popular interface; whether Mac OS X or iOS, today it’s arguably the most PROFITABLE computer company. Anyway, my positive comments about Linux and some criticism of anything Apple resulted in an all out assault on anything I said; I quickly closed my account in that location and have not returned.

I’m not planning to do that here, but all I would like to interject is this: when we talk about “software freedom”, it’s my opinion that true freedom allows each of us to use whatever we choose: that is, if we want to (or have to, in order to have a job) use Microsoft or Apple products, those are two of the many choices, so is the choice to use large commercial mainframe systems, small proprietary interactive or real time systems, or Linux, or some other choice not mentioned here; being one to choose “freedom” with that kind of a definition, I definitely enjoy using our antiX, and over the course of a long week, it’s probably the

                  most common

thing I use on my computers, but I DO also use Chromebook computers, Android phones and occasionally other proprietary systems, and many other freely available Linux systems. I’m a true advocate of choice in that kind of a way; each choice has it’s own advantages and disadvantages and each is a personal choice.

                      Nice work @rokytnji:

I’m here with MX Linux; was actually on openSUSE for a few hours while I listened to or watched a couple of football games.
Now my wonderful wife is calling “When are you going to come and sit next to me?” so it’s “time’s up” for now!

                      See y’all later!

Down with a bug the last week, pox on the person that brought it into work, but managed to get out of bed long enough to rework antix-core dwm respin. Closer to completion but a dozen or so items to remediate before publishing.

For kicks, I decided to see if the respin would install on a firewall appliance sitting on my project bench.

I discovered “x” under xorg provides window manager info!

Once I recover from this bug, I hope to complete the respin, use it on my daily driver for a couple weeks, then publish.

I want to thank @anticapitalista and the others for this amazing Linux distribution. Especially, the antix-core runit version. Love it!

Since I think I never posted in this thread, here it goes- this is currently my office computer (my old netbook, connected to external keyboard, screen and mouse, placed on top of my non working desktop)- using antiX 22 with Ft10, OpenOffice’s appimage quicklauncher, Min Browser, geany, rox-term, zzzfm, all at once, (with zram running) it’s still strangly usable, but problably it’s the device with lowest specs possible to use an OS this way, on the brink of 2023…

Yes, @masinick, nice system. How is the xanmod kernel and why did you pick it?

The xanmod1 kernel works very well.
The reason I went looking for it is that our standard kernels don’t work on this hardware and right around the time I got this system the version 6 kernel arrived. At first hardly any of my usual places had it and I found this one first.

It’s similar to the Liquorix kernel.
Most of the time this one is at the top of the boot loader list. Both Liquorix and xanmod1 now have good v6 kernels.
