The pc that I mainly used so far was an old laptop Asus F3Sg from 2008.
It was given to me in 2015, when it was thrown into the air by the owner’s girlfriend who had found photos in it that shouldn’t have existed.
I recovered it and used as a desktop, in fact it had the hinge broken and I couldn’t even close the monitor.Now it is deadly broken. Sad news for me. It was perfect for my needs 🙁

Shell: Bash v: 5.0.3 inxi: 3.3.06On this old hw I installed FT10-fluxbox (thx @PPC) and more important I found one stick of 2Gb sodimm ddr2, in order to increase the memory. I tried to go up to 4 Gb, unfortunately antiX see only 3 Gb max.
This pc is 2 years older than the broken one and I perceive the difference when I play bullet chess games, where every fraction of second counts a lot. This old system consumes much more time to send out my moves.
I have to try to convince my wife to place a desktop in the dining room, but I’m afraid I will not succeed, because a laptop is the max dimension that I can use in the house 🙂
My other computers are all desktop and are located in the basement, which I have equipped as a “PC laboratory”: at the moment the newest is an i5 1st series, 10 Gram.

Today I’m here with MX Linux 21 on my newest hardware after spending a full day with two separate instances of antiX 21 yesterday on my Dell Inspiron 5558 laptop.
The Acer Aspire 5 Model A515-55 that I’m using now IS able to BOOT the antiX-21-runit-full-amd64 image BUT it only sees the Ethernet network card, and I have only a few places to go in order to plug in, so I’ve been sticking with the 5558 when I want to get some GOOD TIME in with antiX OR the Lenovo X201; both of them are good systems for antiX; my two old HP systems, a desktop and an old laptop (one of them is SO OLD that it’s actually a rebranded Compaq D5000 series with an HP badge on it); whatever “age” that system is, the DESIGN of that system probably DATES back somewhere between 2000-2007.
By the way, I’m really happy with our “runit” series; it’s been solid and I don’t see any “issues”, and it’s a responsive, lean, usable, effective distribution, and I’ve used it extensively in both Base and Full implementations (haven’t used Net or Core for a few years). In testing going back a few releases, I’ve used other init systems; though I have not tested them recently, we’ve had solid versions of the classic init systems/methods for almost two decades; they’re solid too.

I’m back with the Acer Aspire 5 this morning, listening and watching video, this time using a general purpose distribution that isn’t necessarily the fastest, coolest in every way, but it’s been a very good distribution for nearly 20 years: PCLinuxOS.
As I’ve often said, I love antiX and I also love freely available software and choice, so I have a pretty large collection of distributions, including this one. Here’s another shout out to the freedom of choice.
AntiX, without question, is much leaner than PCLinux. What PCLinuxOS brings is a broad capability, a curious blend of packaging – it uses an RPM packaging method, so in that regard, it’s like the Red Hat, Mandrake/Mandriva… bunch, but the tools used to distribute the packages are similar to the “Debian-like” approach that Debian uses.
On this Aspire 5, I have MX Linux 21, siduction, PCLinuxOS, and EndeavourOS. It’s one of the very few computers over the years where I have not either used or at least tried out antiX; in this case, it’s because my Wifi card isn’t recognized, and sometimes the boot record isn’t always recognized. Fortunately I have multiple computers and I have antiX on all except the Acer Aspire 5 and the Acer Chromebook 715; on a few of my older systems I have ONLY antiX, so our distribution of choice is WELL REPRESENTED on my arsenal of aging computer hardware and software.

My friend uses Hyperbola which doesn’t have dbus, pulseaudio, systemd, and a bunch of other stuff, very minimal. Yesterday I wanted to compile a web browser for him to try, but Hyperbola comes with older glib 2.30, too old for a build on antiX 21 to work. No problem – in two minutes I had spun up an installation of antiX 19 and was able to start the build immediately after a quick apt command to install a normal build environment. With its glib 2.28 antiX 19 was the perfect choice and he’s already able to use the browser this morning.
Try doing that with Arch or Ubuntu or Debian or Fedora or whatnot, where you could easily spend an hour or more installing, hunting down build dependencies, figuring out workarounds for various errors, etc. antiX is shockingly fast at getting to work.

I’m going through several of my “older” USB sticks at the moment and I found a couple of antiX 21 images that I used to assist in the testing of the antiX 21 implementation. I found this one interesting because I was testing the Copy_toram feature and a few other things. I was also able to include my own wallpaper in the image that I saved, so that was helpful testing too.
This one is the antiX-bullseye-a2-runit_x64-full image, which is the Alpha 2 build BEFORE we started Beta testing. I’ve long held that antiX does a great job of getting even the early builds in usable condition; this is a very good example. While not perfect at this stage, it’s usable, even now (long after the released image is complete).

I noticed that I wasn’t running the most current 4.9 kernel, so I updated it and rebooted. Most of the kernels work well, and this one
