::Happy New Year’s Eve to all. I’m here with antiX and I am experimenting today with PPC’s FT10 tool, which provides a number of toolbar, application, and appearance conveniences. Recently PPC reported that his tool hasn’t received much attention or testing and he’s politely asked for people to try it out.
The tool is included in the antiX repository and the name of the tool is ft10-transformation. I recommend that people try it out, suggest things you would like to see or have omitted, and test the features. PPC is very interested in making this not only a package in our repository, but also a default choice for the next antiX release, and I’d like to see that too because I think it will ease the transition to antiX from other systems without creating a huge overhead to the overall system. Moreover, it’s a labor of love and of personal challenge to overcome the things PPC had to learn when first moving to antiX.
Veteran users may not want to use this tool as their every day choice; I haven’t myself up until now, but I’ve seen the value of this, and I’m willing to devote some of my time to testing, evaluating, and suggesting minor changes, and I urge others to do the same.
Some things that I really like about FT10, in addition to what it offers is that people who regularly want to use something else can easily either disable or completely purge the tool, so it’s really not very intrusive unless it’s enabled. But what changed my mind and caused me to be positive about this is the recollection of my own recommendations – several times I have recommended simple tools that improve our usability without heavy overhead. This is another tool that meets that criteria. For this and other reasons, I think we should get behind this effort, try it out, help fine tune it and then utilize it to help ordinary every day users get familiar with antiX; once people are comfortable, they can either continue to use the tool or disable it and explore the flexibility and leanness of the antiX way.
I hope many of you will appreciate this thinking and give this tool some testing, help to further improve it, either with suggestions, testing, or code, and in any case, thank PPC for the many hours of effort spent in documenting ideas, help, and tool development. This is what continues to make this distribution an effective worldwide system.

::Happy New Year 🎈
Welcome to the year 2023 and a fresh start.It’s a foggy morning in the upstate region of South Carolina but it’s 10-15°F warmer here today than the average temperature for this time of the year. That’s good news to me because a week ago we had single digit temperatures and freezing pipes in some parts of our complex.
AntiX is looking good for 2023 and I send you my best for the year ahead!
Here’s the latest kernel I’m using today: Kernel: 6.1.2-x64v3-xanmod1 arch: x86_64pinxi -v2 System: Host: brian-antix-hp-14fq1025nr Kernel: 6.1.2-x64v3-xanmod1 arch: x86_64 bits: 64 Desktop: IceWM v: 3.3.0 Distro: antiX-21-runit_x64-full Grup Yorum 30 October 2021 Machine: Type: Laptop System: HP product: HP Laptop 14-fq1xxx v: N/A serial: <superuser required> Mobo: HP model: 887C v: 59.11 serial: <superuser required> UEFI: AMI v: F.18 date: 11/26/2021 Battery: ID-1: BAT0 charge: 40.6 Wh (99.8%) condition: 40.7/40.7 Wh (100.0%) CPU: Info: 6-core AMD Ryzen 5 5500U with Radeon Graphics [MT MCP] speed (MHz): avg: 2100 min/max: 1400/4056 Graphics: Device-1: AMD Lucienne driver: amdgpu v: kernel Device-2: Chicony HP TrueVision HD Camera type: USB driver: uvcvideo Display: x11 server: X.Org v: 1.20.11 driver: X: loaded: amdgpu unloaded: fbdev,modesetting,vesa dri: radeonsi gpu: amdgpu resolution: 1920x1080~60Hz API: OpenGL v: 4.6 Mesa 20.3.5 renderer: AMD RENOIR (DRM 3.49.0 6.1.2-x64v3-xanmod1 LLVM 11.0.1) Network: Device-1: Realtek driver: rtw89_8852ae Drives: Local Storage: total: 238.47 GiB used: 29.29 GiB (12.3%) Info: Processes: 283 Uptime: 2m Memory: 7.11 GiB used: 593.6 MiB (8.2%) Shell: Bash pinxi: 3.3.24-4--

::I’m also using antiX 22 with IceWM and the FT10 custom tint2 configuration, which I have also further customized to be similar to my default IceWM settings, except with the tint2/FT10 toolbar instead of the default IceWM toolbar. As PPC has suggested, this may very well be a bit more “comfortable” for a brand new user and the overhead is not extreme. Moreover, I’ve been able to satisfy myself that this is something that I too can use because I can change the appearance and the action icons that are displayed on the toolbar.
