::@rokytnji: I was fortunate to learn hardware and software during my undergraduate education in the 1970s, after my very first introduction to computer systems from my high school math and science program. In 1972 they made a county wide minicomputer system available via dial in service to students across the county and my 11th and 12th grade math teachers each taught a class in the Introduction to Computers.
I’m very grateful for that because it helped me decide upon my university major in Computer Science and it also was the beginning of exposure to leading edge systems of the era, from microprocessors to minicomputer systems, real time systems to mainframe systems.
By the time I graduated from the university I already had experience with each of them. Two years after I started working IBM came in late to the personal computer arena and completely brought it out to consumers. Then other companies started creating more affordable systems and the migration to the commodities we have today began.
I was young when I started, now I’m older and retired; it’s been an interesting career. I’m happy to be retired but the profession did have some interesting times.

::I downloaded the siduction 22.1 Masters_of_War – xfce ISO image. I already have siduction installed, and because it’s a rolling release, I am not going to install this image unless, at some later time, I revamp my systems, then I have a newer image to install. This version does have several additional features, which are also available in their repos, but are now included in their latest image.
https://siduction.org/2022/12/release-notes-for-siduction-2022-1-masters-of-war/ describes the release. This goes back to a Bob Dylan song of the same name from 1962.
The image includes a Version 6.1 kernel, a chroot-helper, the Nala package manager in addition to the usual apt, a Snapper snapshot tool, and of course, a choice of desktops. The link above provides the full details.
This distribution is another of the very good Debian-based distributions.

::I’m also happy to see that my topic: “What are you “here” with today?” moved to the second page until I wrote today’s posts. That means this forum has been relatively active, at least over the past day or two.
I look forward to the mostly helpful, encouraging topics that are discussed on this forum and thank the many helpful contributing members.

::I’m now using the Firefox Developer Edition 109.0b9 (64-bit) (Beta 9), days before the release of Firefox Version 109 (soft freeze January 12, merge date January 16, and version release date January 17).
With the browser running, and 3 tabs running a moment ago, two tabs currently running, and the zzzFM (file manager) running, I’m currently using 1.5Gi of memory. I’m using the 6.1.3-x64v3-xanmod1 kernel instead of the 6.1.0-3.1-liquorix-amd64 kernel I was using earlier.

::Hello,
I am visiting the antiXforum using SliTaz. I created this personalized iso which was only 64 MB (that is megabytes) and put it on a 650 MB CD. I cannot believe that this small iso can access the web with graphics. I am using the TazWeb browser to type this message.Attachments:

::What version of Slitaz do you have? Last time I tried it on my newer systems I couldn’t get the WiFi to work. Maybe I could still run it on my oldest systems.

::Hi Brian.
You have a new nickname since I last checked in. The version is SliTaz 5.0 RC4. It was just released last month. Please see picture.
In order to get the internet to autoload upon boot, I had to modify the /etc/network.conf file.
In it, I had to change the default interface, which is default to ethernet, to wifi:
INTERFACE=”wlan0″and I had to enable the wifi at boot:
WIFI=”yes”The nice thing about SliTaz is that once I set this network.conf file correctly, I can load this iso file on any computer in my home network and the wifi would autoconnect, even if I have never launched SliTaz on that computer. With antiX, I would have to set the password on every new computer. Not with SliTaz.
Now, not all wifi dongles work. antiX has more extensive firmware support. The wifi dongle that worked for me without adding extra firmware is:
Device-3: Ralink RT2870/RT3070 Wireless Adapter type: USB driver: rt2800usbThe iso that I downloaded from the SliTaz site was only about 55 Mb. I added some apps and now my iso is only 64 Mb.
Good luck.

::@calciumsodium: I did not have any success with this image, but then again, I was using my most current system, and it won’t handle WiFi with such an old kernel; I did get it to boot from USB, but that was about it; same when I’ve tried on my other recent systems. I used to use Slitaz all the time on one of my Dell systems from the 2000-2010 era, but all the ones that worked for me were 32-bit systems; even my old ones now are 64-bit. When I get some time I’ll try one of my oldest 64-bit systems to see if it’ll work.
Meanwhile I just picked up some super small, high capacity USB 3.1 drives so I can experiment with some recent distros on my newer stuff and come back to some of the oldies with older USB drives.

::Monday, January 9, 2022: we are still experiencing some short outages and we’re working on isolating the cause.
Removing many of the site plugins has helped some, but has not eliminated all disruptions.Personally I didn’t run into any today until a few moments ago, when we had a very short interruption.

::Tuesday, January 10, 2023: we are still experiencing some short outages. Currently the administration is investigating root cause and potential solutions. BobC suggested disabling forum search in favor of a Web search to reduce Web server system stress, and also consider keeping only 2-3 years of forum activity in the active forum and putting the older stuff in a searchable archive, as we’ve done in the past (for example, pre-2017 posts).
