::I have an interesting issue on siduction.
I’ve been unable to use multimedia sites in a Web browser.Today I carefully added several media related packages and I also added smtube.
Once I did that I was able to get the URL for various media sites, put them into smtube and they worked on siduction.
Tried them again with a couple completely different Web browsers with no luck.
There must be some setting respected on browsers that inhibits the playing of media content that works fine for the stand alone smtube command line tool.
What would block media across browsers and allow it in smtube?

::Friday, February 3, 2023 with antiX –
Here’s a few different information options, at least compared to what most of us typically show here. I found it in the man page.
Of courses, b provides “basic” information, a provides extra admin data options, and -y provides an optional width, or overrides the actual window width. I don’t see much actual change in this output, but if needed, they are available. I do see that the a and y do provide an appearance that looks familiar to those who use our inxi-gui tool.inxi -bay System: Host: brian-antix-hp-14fq1025nr Kernel: 6.1.9-x64v3-xanmod1 arch: x86_64 bits: 64 compiler: gcc v: 12.2.0 parameters: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-6.1.9-x64v3-xanmod1 root=UUID=e1d85e10-a42a-4ed5-a98e-c860607e6910 ro quiet selinux=0 Desktop: IceWM v: 3.3.1 vt: 4 dm: slimski v: 1.5.0 Distro: antiX-21-runit_x64-full Grup Yorum 30 October 2021 base: Debian GNU/Linux 11 (bullseye) Machine: Type: Laptop System: HP product: HP Laptop 14-fq1xxx v: N/A serial: <superuser required> Chassis: type: 10 serial: <superuser required> Mobo: HP model: 887C v: 59.11 serial: <superuser required> UEFI: AMI v: F.18 date: 11/26/2021 Battery: ID-1: BAT0 charge: 40.6 Wh (99.8%) condition: 40.7/40.7 Wh (100.0%) volts: 12.8 min: 11.3 model: HP Primary type: Li-ion serial: SerialNumber status: not charging CPU: Info: 6-core AMD Ryzen 5 5500U with Radeon Graphics [MT MCP] arch: Zen 2 speed (MHz): avg: 2041 min/max: 1400/4056 Graphics: Device-1: AMD Lucienne vendor: Hewlett-Packard driver: amdgpu v: kernel arch: GCN-5.1 code: Vega-2 process: TSMC n7 (7nm) built: 2018-21 pcie: gen: 3 speed: 8 GT/s lanes: 16 link-max: gen: 4 speed: 16 GT/s ports: active: eDP-1 empty: HDMI-A-1 bus-ID: 03:00.0 chip-ID: 1002:164c class-ID: 0300 temp: 34.0 C Device-2: Chicony HP TrueVision HD Camera type: USB driver: uvcvideo bus-ID: 1-3:3 chip-ID: 04f2:b6f1 class-ID: 0e02 serial: 0001 Display: x11 server: X.Org v: 1.20.11 driver: X: loaded: amdgpu unloaded: fbdev, modesetting, vesa dri: radeonsi gpu: amdgpu resolution: 1920x1080~60Hz API: OpenGL v: 4.6 Mesa 20.3.5 renderer: AMD RENOIR (DRM 3.49.0 6.1.9-x64v3-xanmod1 LLVM 11.0.1) direct render: Yes Network: Device-1: Realtek vendor: Hewlett-Packard driver: rtw89_8852ae v: kernel pcie: gen: 1 speed: 2.5 GT/s lanes: 1 port: f000 bus-ID: 01:00.0 chip-ID: 10ec:a85a class-ID: 0280 Drives: Local Storage: total: 238.47 GiB used: 30.08 GiB (12.6%) Info: Processes: 265 Uptime: 4m wakeups: 277 Memory: 7.1 GiB used: 579.4 MiB (8.0%) Init: runit v: N/A runlevel: 2 tool: service Compilers: gcc: 10.2.1 alt: 10 Packages: pm: dpkg pkgs: 1831 libs: 837 tools: apt,apt-get,nala,synaptic Shell: Bash v: 5.1.4 running-in: roxterm inxi: 3.3.24--

I did not get this resolved, despite adding and updating quite a few packages, but since the most recent siduction release was not very long ago, and I do have a copy of the USB, I reinstalled it yesterday and it worked.
Today I updated packages and it still seemed to work fine, but I will reboot later to make sure that my issues are resolved.
I also was happy to do some testing yesterday with our antiX 23 Alpha 1 build and I was quite happy overall with the first build.
The issues we have are easily correctable and the memory use is still moderate, despite the “inaccurate readings” provided by a couple of the standard Linux tools – that’s NOT the fault of antiX, it’s an inconsistency in the way memory usage is recorded and tracked by various tools.
I believe thanks and gratitude are in order for each of our developers, and thanks also to the many contributors who also provide suggestions, actively test, share art work, and help other users. I have no “crystal ball”, yet based on the consistent manner in which this community operates, I remain confident that we will be able to produce another really good release of software, especially when the very first Alpha build provides such a solid foundation and example of the work that has already started.--

::You guys were colder than us a day or so ago and today it looks like you have very nice weather!
Must be crazier than Michigan weather around Pecos, TX!We’re hovering just under 40 degrees now, though we did have a nice, sunny, but brisk day today. The sun was shining first thing this morning, something that didn’t happen more than 60 times a year with bright sunshine in some areas of Michigan, due to the number of lakes, streams, and major Great Lakes, which of course carry a lot of water, leading to a LOT of cloudy days!
We have ocean, but it’s between four and five hours east of us, so it’s not a factor. We also have mountains, but most of them are hills around here, except one that nicely protects us, (in my opinion) from too many extremes – we’re NEAR it, but not ON it, so that also helps. To our North are higher elevations and they can get colder weather and more frequent snow; we haven’t had any snow at all this season and only ONE last season, so that is also nice.
Also our weather was often warm, but rarely extreme over the past year, so it was a good year that way too.
I’m thinking of pulling out one of my dinosaur desktop units and trying out the new Alpha version there.

I noticed that Texas where roki lives had 1-2 days with cold temperatures but they’ve warmed up. We had a period of a couple days just before Christmas where we had single digit Fahrenheit temperatures, subzero Celcius, in fact it was the coldest weather in the five winter seasons I’ve experienced in the southern US state of South Carolina, but that was pretty common for winter weather in either Michigan or New Hampshire, the other two states where I’ve spent most of my life prior to retirement.
Texas, particularly the area near Dallas, Texas, can be unusual. I’ve spent several weeks there on business in both the summer and winter, and I remember one week in January I enjoyed one or two days with summer-like temperatures around ninety, yet when I went back home and traded spots with one of my associates, they experienced snow and ice; I was lucky to NEVER experience that in Texas, though I had more than my share of that kind of weather in Michigan, New Hampshire and nearby Massachusetts.
I notice it’s often the COLD weather when software geeks do some of their best work; otherwise some geeks wear beach shorts, a beach blanket and sandals or “flip-flops” and spend time outdoors.
That reminds me of a “fun time” when I was still in the Digital UNIX Development Environment (DUDE), we had regular meetings, sometimes with a “theme”. In the winter we’d usually stay within our facility, but we did have a “beach” theme at one winter meeting.
Wouldn’t you know it, two of the guys in the group who went to Michigan Tech – another really intelligent guy (much more so than me), brought some great beach wear. I did the same, in fact, if anything, I went further than he did; I had a complete change of clothes and outfit, including swimming trunks, T shirt, beach towel, and sandals. I brought them to work and changed just before the meeting. Needless to say, we were the only two who truly got into the spirit of the gathering that day, but we all had fun. (As soon as the meeting was over, I quickly changed back into multi layers of winter clothing, but the two of us won some minor prize that day).--
