::Though I was able to get in this forum with links2 and it’s a very efficient browser, it doesn’t provide the “rich” graphical experience of Firefox, Chrome, Vivaldi, Opera, or several of the other “full function” Web browsers. I will say that if resources are a major issue, there is still quite a bit that you CAN do with links2.
Now that I’m using Firefox, it’s a little easier to see what I’m sharing, so here’s the same information I shared a little while ago with antiX 23 Beta 1; you can see the details do look quite similar and the overall experience is similar too.

::My brother in law used to live on Shepherd St in the north side a couple blocks from the lake in Milwaukee Wisconsin.
They’re here in Greenville SC and in fact we’re at their house now watching our nephew while they have a theater night.
We’re about to head to the Pita to House for some grub.
BTW he was my neighbor, so was my wife so our families know each other well! 👍
He’s the doctor, his oldest brother went to school with me and is a retired mechanical engineer who worked on some great auto projects during his career.
Brother 2 runs a hotel in the ski resort area of Steamboat Springs CO.
Brother 3 is the doctor here and my wife is a retired high school guidance counselor.
I’m the computer geek.

::Hey @rokytnji – glad you’ve made progress with that fence; it must’ve been a huge job with many setbacks, and if you’re anywhere near as old as I am, some days I feel like a kid – that is until I get up and try to move – or I look in the mirror, see the changes in hair color AND considerable loss of hair on the top of my head!
Not only that, but this year I became a GRANDFATHER; I now have a two month old granddaughter!
Even my younger brother in law’s son, my youngest nephew, is turning 13 this summer! (I can remember when his dad had a full head of hair; he has LESS hair than me or his other two brothers!)
Anyway, back to the things at hand. Recently our independent living senior citizen community changed the WiFi access procedure; ours uses Spectrum WiFi. Two of the people on our Resident Counsel, one of whom is also a member of the Board of Directors of our independent organization, recommended that when Spectrum wanted to implement a more “secure”, modern update to our WiFi (and simpler for residents), we also upgrade our internal WiFi network hardware. The President and CEO of our facility and the Executive Vice President both “assured” them that our current infrastructure was capable of making the change.
Anyway, over the past month or so, I’ve mentioned, more than once, that our network has been mysteriously either popping up and down, or going off-line, only to just as mysteriously reappear and function as normal. THAT was taking place BEFORE this change. I speculated at the time that someone was “experimenting” with our network without REPORTING that anything was going on.
Now that the changes HAVE taken place, I notice, particularly when I use medium weight distributions, that network connectivity is sometimes taking as much as 1-2 minutes to connect to a service that SHOULD connect in 0.5 – 2-3 seconds MAX.
Given this nonsense, I suspect that while our 13-14 year old network infrastructure still works to some degree, any more recent technology, such as changes from WPA 2 to WPA 3, or whatever newer network protocols have become available either 1) aren’t supported, or 2) they work poorly on the current hardware.
I’m completely GUESSING on this myself because I don’t physically have a network scope or any measurement tools to evaluate what’s happening, but the guess is this = 1) When a network request comes in, it first attempts to connect with the current, most secure network protocols available, and the network hardware is either so slow that it takes upward of a minute to complete the handshake or 2) it times out on the recommended protocol and attempts to reconnect, then finally fails over to an older backup protocol technology. While this is speculation on my part, that’s a pretty reasonable explanation for the terrible connect times. Once connected, it’s OK, but the drops and reconnects are also much more frequent than they’ve been for the past 5 years since we moved here.
More when I come over to antiX; I’ll see if the initial connection is better; I’ve even seen drops on our beloved distro, so I’m 99% certain it’s coming from THE VARIABLE, the changes that were poorly managed by our administration, trying to save a few bucks instead of revamping our aging internal network.
Oh yeah, five years ago our facility could handle Ethernet connections, but they’ve now put the entire load on WiFi; I rest my case; our network is no longer properly configured for a community of approximately 200-250 people!

::It’s a wonderful Friday. On the front of checking menus, I moved around and the other window managers on my system, whether antiX 22 or antiX 23, DO have the Applications organization; only my IceWM instances don’t have it; I noticed in my menu that I have an antiX with several of the main items in it, and a group of other categories for other things, such as Accessories, Games, Graphics, Internet, etc., all of which are reasonably populated and well organized. I’m happy with it whether it is labelled Applications, antiX, or something else, as long as each category is reasonable and properly populated.
Here is today’s information for the antiX 23 Beta 1 instance –

I haven’t decided whether I’m going to bring a computer with me or not, other than my Internet capable phone, but I probably will not be bringing my HP-14 laptop, so it’s unlikely that I’ll be doing much in the way of true Linux distro hopping or testing in the next week, so if I’m not around much, that’ll be why.
