I welcome people who use the development version of pinxi to run pinxi -U and then pinxi -h every so often to see any added information. h2 has done a lot of work to make it possible and it’s helpful to try it out.

Should we find an issue, sharing the results here, and if it’s notable, report it to h2, who has a Web site and a forum.

I thank h2 for his work, the extra time he spends explaining inxi and pinxi, and in general, providing excellence. Many people are good developers. The number of people who clearly explain and document their work is a fairly elite, or at least limited group. Thank you my friend!

Wow, thanks for those words. I always view my attempts at documentation somewhat feeble and inadequate, but I’ve been doing much better lately, documenting stuff as I develop it, with discreet per type of item doc files, all found in inxi-perl/docs/*.txt, as well as more static stuff on smxi.org of course.

I think it’s because you’re a perfectionist and you want the best always. That can be a positive trait, assuming you’re not “freaky” about it — and I have never seen anything that would suggest that to me.

Documentation is not easy. Like you, I find it best to write as I go, especially with tools. On software projects, whether designing an entire effort or building in chunks or sprints, at least a statement of intent, what is the desired results and the essential interaction, to me is essential,

Sometimes too much is written and other times information is absent or lacking.

As far as your work goes, I’ve rarely had to ask about it; you either explain it or it’s inherently clean and clear so it always meets my requirements and basic needs.

An aspiring software developer would benefit from reading or even copying and properly citing any of your work that I have used over the years.

I watched NBA playoff basketball between two longtime East Coast rivals, the Boston Celtics and the Philadelphia 76ers.

The playoffs rivalry goes back to the days when Bill Russell battled Wilt Chamberlain, and later Julius Serving (Dr. J) battled Larry Bird.

These days it’s Joel Embiid and James Harden challenging the ‘Jays’, Jayson Tatum and Jalen Brown. Boston Celtics have the edge in the series, two games to one.

                          Hello Brian,
I wonder if this would be easy to implement?
When I first log into the forum I like to look at Recent Posts. Often there’s something new that’s been posted but clicking on said post header takes one to the earliest rather than the latest post in the particular thread. I’ve worked out that if one clicks on the 92 number in this thread one does arrive here at the end but it seems more intuitive to me if the latest appeared as soon as one clicks on the forum header. What do you think?

Just click the date in the most right column from the recent postings listing, right above the poster’s nick, and you’ll directly get to the most recent entry in the thread.

Windows is like a submarine. Open a window and serious problems will start.

Yes, I more or less discovered that after posting my suggestion. Still, I believe an automatically generated “last posting” is more intuitive but I do understand that website design and in particular hosting services are hard to modify with such even minor “improvements”. Thanks Robin.

As far as the forum and the interface, it’s been discussed several times, and I have communicated with our forum admin.

I know some people prefer the MX Linux forum or forum xyz to ours. Speaking with the admin, I found out that in spite of appearance, our software is more robust than the other forum and the server we’re using is on a more capable server, unless I totally misunderstood the conversation.

The issue we face is that since we’ve got an international space and a strong stance from our leader on matters that some people inexplicably criticize, this may generate some of the attention.

Every Website these days is a vector and a potential starting point for attention and attack; we seem to get more at times than others. We don’t have an unlimited budget for defense against every possible intrusion so the protection we do have annoys us at times, forcing us to copy and attach only certain things and blocking others. All I can say is that our admin has spent hours on this very issue and came up with a workable implementation at the cost of the removal of a few features that were introducing other issues; ah, the cost and pain of software.

If we were a multi billion dollar company like a few of the financial services companies I have worked for, we wouldn’t even be having this conversation but we have a tiny budget based on donated equipment and personal funds.

Anyway I have not been personally having any forum issues recently and I hope that most of us are able to get through and share what is necessary.
