After installing mate-desktop-environment, I would like to switch the WM. What is the process?

Mate should appear after installation in the menu under desktop > alternate desktops
        or from terminal
        /usr/local/lib/desktop-session/desktop-session-menu-window ignore-settings

Now that I’ve switched to Mate, how do I shutdown the machine, from desktop?
There are only logout and switch users options, and in the DM there is no option to shut down or reboot, only F1 to toggle sessions.

            Is policykit-1 installed?

antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

You can try adding an icon (to the desktop or the toolbar( that runs “desktop-session-exit”

              P.

Did you also install a different Display manager (lightdm, gdm, etc.)? You may have to edit the Display Manager configuration to use pam-elogind instead of systemd-logind to enable the power options. For big Desktop Environments, they usually delegate the session power buttons and commands to the login daemons/service, so we need to know what other things are going on.
