Hi Everyone,
How do I check what version of antix I’m running? 19.2 or 19.3? Antix 19.3 is supposed to include libreoffice 7, but my version is still 6.1.5 after an upgrade…
Sincerely,
Lars.- This topic was modified 2 years, 6 months ago by lgj100.

::How did you upgrade?
If you want latest liberoffice, install it via package installer app.
Make sure you install any language packs as well.Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.
antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

::I upgraded this way:
sudo apt update; sudo apt -y upgrade;sudo apt -y dist-upgrade; sudo apt -y clean;sudo apt -y autoremove
Shouldn’t this give me the latest libreoffice?
Also, how to I check whether I’m running 19.2 or 19.3?

If you don’t have any new updates it means you are in the latest antiX.
The point release numbers represent changes since the last release, but all those changes and fixes are available to anyone using the current version (unlike how Ubuntu does things).
If inxi -S says you are running any version of antiX 19, it means you are running the most updated version of 19 (you can ignore the pint release number as it will not change).Shouldn’t this give me the latest libreoffice?
This will be a bit long, but bear with me.
In Debian, there are 3( four, but we will avoid talking about old-stable) “releases” running at the same time:
– stable (currently used by antiX) is bug free and very stable (as much as this can be possible), but to keep this stability it uses a bit older packages that have been tested so much that they are almost sure they won’t break.
– Testing has many packages that are not completely stable and are in a testing period (so they can find all possible bugs) before they can be considered stable. It contains packages with versions much newer to the ones in the stable release.
– Unstable has lots of packages that can break not only themselves, but they could even break your system. This release is for people who like to live on the edge and know how to fix their system when one update breaks it. This release will contain the most recent versions for most packages.As the stable release may feel a bit old, they (the Debian team) have come up with a way to bring some of the testing packages to stable for people who want a more updated version. This is what they call backports. These backports are newer version software but may contain a few bugs, so it cannot be considered completely stable.
Returning to the main topic, antiX wants to remain as stable as possible, so the main packages will always come from the stable release, but it now also lets you download packages from the backports “collection”. If you launch the application named “Package Installer”, you can install many of the backports under the tag “Latest” (search for “Latest” in the package installer and you will see all the newest backports offered).
If you want to overwrite the current libreoffice installed version, install the Latest version using the package installer and it should overwrite your older version.Give it a test.
