      Hi again.

Sorry for creating another topic so soon, but I’m wondering if there is a step-by-step guide to installing AntiX-21 while having the home partition still intact. I heard about this method a while, but I’m not sure how it works or how to do it?

Thank for helping me with resetting my password though.

      Best regards,
      Chase

        You have 2 options:
        A) Use the live installer and select to preserve your home partition in the installer. (select the home partition in the advabced options, and make sure the “preserve” option is selected).
        B) Follow these steps to upgrade from 19 to 21 (make a backup first).

I think it is better to always backup just in case.

So, option A is basically how, right?

I’ll make sure of it somehow.

Okay…I should be clear…how do I do option A? Do I select “customize disk” or…what?

                  Hi.
Sorry for the delay. I thought the last message I read yesterday was a confirmation, and not a question.

As I see that you have no EFI partition on your system, antiX 19 was installed using MBR as bootloader. Please confirm.
Disable all options for sbd (which I asume is the live USB), as we are not interested in installing the bootloader there.

sda1 (your root antiX), set is as root (in the “Use for” column).
sda2 is swap. Set it as swap. you can decide if you want to preserve it or not (preserving it keeps the UIID for the partition and doens’t reformat it).
sda3 is your home. You have already done it properly, setting it as home in the “Use for” column, and keeping it intact in the “Format” column (you have already selected it as “Preserve, which s the correct option).

Remove all “For use” options in the sdb section, continue the installation and select to install grub in MBR, when the time comes.

I would still recommend you backup your files from the home partition first, as I never trust the installer of any distroo.

Got it. Thanks again for the help.

I may have to reinstall some apps such as Wine, but it worked. The upgrade was a success so far.
