Hi,
I have some old Presentation files that won’t run properly on LibreOffice.
They were made with SoftMaker Office 2016 or 2018, when I was still using Windows.I have the install files for Windows (registered) versions of 2016 and 2018, but neither works well with PlayOnLinux.
I downloaded and installed the Linux (registered) version of 2016 and 2018. However, as noted on other threads, 2018 doesn’t install properly on antix 32 bit systems. But Office 2016 installs and runs well in “Trial” mode (after adding one dependency file).
I contacted SoftMaker, hoping they would transfer my Windows registration for Office 2016 to Linux. But they won’t.
The FreeOffice 2016, 32 bit deb must be hiding in a few places. My searches have not found it. Let me know if you know where.
Thanks.

::BobC,
Thank you for the link. However, all of those download files are for registered versions of SM Office (not FreeOffice).
As mentioned in my previous post, I downloaded the registered version of SM Office 2016 for Linux (from that site).
It installs and runs nicely, but only in Trial mode (expires in 30 days).
SoftMaker will no longer issue a registration key for any 32 bit products.So, I’m still looking for FreeOffice 2016 i386 deb.

DaveW, if you post to this (((linked))) softmaker topic to ask for a key, hopefully they will still (((now, in 2023)) accommodate you

::Sorry, I tried.
If isnit’s idea doesn’t pan out, see if there were there any distro’s or repos that included it?

::So, I’m still looking for FreeOffice 2016 i386 deb.
a deb package file is still available
(this link is same file as linked to the button on page BobC mentioned)
http://www.softmaker.net/down/softmaker-freeoffice-2016_767-01_i386.debIf they truly now refuse to issue a key, you could copy the debfile onto a liveboot pendrive….. and install it (((repeatedly))) to be used during non-persistent live sessions.

::I have not checked archive.org but I do know they have a ton of expired stuff uploaded there. You might wish to poke around there.
Good luck.

::Well… Softmaker FreeOffice 2016 (i386 deb) installed nicely.
But even FreeOffice requires a registration key… which Softmaker will not supply, because the product is “too old.”So… Now, where to find a valid key for Freeoffice-2016 ?
FreeOffice does not have a Trial mode. So, it won’t open without the key.
The commercial Office product can be run in Trial mode. But the clock runs out quickly.

::According to this post … : https://ask.libreoffice.org/t/how-can-i-open-a-document-saved-in-freeoffice-softmaker-to-libreoffice/48174
… you might be able to just open them in Libreoffice.
1. Rename the file to a .pptx ending
2. Go to Libreoffice, and from the menu go File – Open and locate the new file
3. In the file filter dropdown box in the lower right-hand corner of the Libreoffice open dialog box, scroll way way way down until you see a file format called “Office Open XML Presentation”, and use that specific one to open the file with
4. Hopefully it will work for youJanuary 5, 2023 at 11:25 pm #96906Member

https://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/6.2.8.2/deb/x86/32-bit antiX should offer to install a much more recent 32-bit Libreoffice than that with the Package Installer. 7.4.3.something I think.

::https://dev-builds.libreoffice.org/pre-releases/src/ does have sources for v7.5.0.1. The binaries are only available from libreoffice.org up to the 2020 releases.

::Thank you for the LibreOffice suggestion.
I have LibreOffice 7.0.4-4 on 32 bit and 64 bit machines. This is the latest in antix repos.
Neither machine handles the Softmaker PRD files properly.I doubt that OpenOffice would do any better. But I haven’t tried it.
