I have 2010 macbook and the latest available nvidia driver is 340.108.

What is the latest antix and kernel I can install?

      runit or sysvinit?

I have a 390.xx and it runs great on antix 19.x, default kernel, sysvinit.
I’m almost certain that it makes no difference what init you use…

Thanks, the init question doesn’t have anything to do with driver, just asking in general which is better/lighter

This my input is probably not the best opinion, but just from my limited experience:
            – All my attempts to install nVidia 340 driver on antiX 21 failed.
            – My past attempts of installing nVidia 340 driver on antiX 19 also failed but I have seen on the web someone was able to.
            – I had no problem installing nVidia 340 driver on antiX 17.

I would also be very interested if someone has a solution on antiX 21…

The 340 nvidia legacy driver is still available on antiX21.
antiX uses a backported driver from the MX-repo.
It’s installable with the nvidia installer from control-centre on antiX21.
              control-centre > driver > nvidia installer

Yes but it’s based on debian 11, is that driver compatible with that version of debian and what kernel to use?

Yes,it’s compatible with debian bullseye 11.
I have the driver installed with 21 on a laptop with a legacy card which I am not using right now.
Will look which kernel is installed as soon as possible.

Out of curiosity I just installed the 5.10.88-antix.1-amd64-smp-1 kernel and headers with synaptic and the build looked good, I didn’t reboot until now, though.
                        Please wait.

In the driver-installer you have to check to look for the backports, too.

Nope, the 5.10.88 didn’t boot here.
Looks like you have to try the 4.9 kernel
Also it’s might possible you have some leftovers from your smxi install.
Before you install the driver with the installer from control-centre the driver from the installation with smxi needs to be completely removed.

There should be a /var/log/ddm.log file
Could you post it. It might gives a hint whats going on.
