Trying out antix again and i am at a loss at which iso to download. What do the 386 and x64 represent please, and then both options come with a net? prefix.
Sorry, tried searching the forums, but keep getting told I am forbidden, browser reckons Iam a spambot!

Search google to find out if its a 32 bit processor or 64 bit. I would suggest downloading the full version of antiX for the processor you have.

You could also post the brand and model of the computer, but the above should answer your question. The antiX FAQ discusses the different versions.

Well, then all the x64 marked isos are fine for you. I’d suggest to use the “full” edition, if you have enough disk space. Please don’t forget to check the checksums after downloading to make sure your copy of the iso wasn’t damaged on transport.

Last time one usb installation wouldnt work on the other and i was sure i had to use different iso downloads? Maybe it was because requirements were different for uefi. One is an intel chip and the other is an amd. Sorry to question your advice, but are you sure they are the same? thanks

As I said before, search google to find out which processor it has based on brand and model number, and find out if its 32 bit or 64 bit. Make a list and post it.

You could make a flashdrive of 64 and another of 32. Try 64 first, and if it won’t run, try 32.

@ags, according to this URL, your CPU is 64 bit so use the x64.

                    https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/sku/37006/intel-core2-duo-processor-p8700-3m-cache-2-53-ghz-1066-mhz-fsb/specifications.html

I second @Robin suggestion. Go for the full installation as long as you have sufficient storage. It will provide a complete solution that should get you up and running.

On UEFI, if you run into problems, google to ensure others haven’t reported UEFI issues and provided solutions, then ask for help here–create a new forum post.

                    Welcome back to antiX!

Sorry to be a troublesome noob. Google was my first port of call, but it didnt render much. I have tried searching the forums, but as I said previously i had no luck.

                      I have a 64 bit Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU, P8600 which is legacy laptop
                      and a
desktop with a gigabyte motherboard, new generation AMD processor, probably Phenom 2… Cannot say for sure because I lost the USB it used to boot from, but its definitely AMD, 64 bit and Uefi.

I have other machines, but I would rather get both of these two operational first so I can get something done.
I did have a link previously which explained what the difference was between net, 386, etc., but i managed to loose that too and cannot find details among the FAQ, or they are not obvious to me at least. The differences between core, base and full I am fine with, I can find information on that everywhere!
                      Thanks for any assistance

As Techore said, those are both 64 bit. Use Full if you have enough space, if not use Base. If they are UEFI, it should default to using that.

In other words: The x64 iso is fine for both of the two your machines you’ve told us about. All isos are prepared to automatically come up on both types of processors, amd and intel. During live boot it will try to configure on its own everything needed, and you can use the very same medium (USB, DVD) on both machines alternatingly. In case it doesn’t come up properly, just post the issue and people here around will try to help you bring it up anyway, there are some methods (including but not restricted to special boot codes for circumventing common problems) which can be applied in this case. So if you ran into such problems, please give as much detailed information along with your concrete question you can make possible, e.g. screenshots or text copies of screen output, along with the console output (if possible) of
sudo inxi -Ffzjrv6 --zl -t cm
                          and
                          sudo dmesg
which will be helpful for finding out where’s the rub, and let people know the very moment the startup process stops.

But all this shouldn’t be needed at all, by default the iso should come up fine.
If not, you might try another antiX generation (e.g. 19 instead of 21, or even 17) on some specific hardware. This is due to the fact, that some code needed for specific hardware has been removed either from linux kernel or from some programs antiX relies on or includes, during the last months and year by the program authors or kernel developers. Also the addition of code for new hardware sometimes breaks the functionallity of older hardware unwanted and unnoticed by the devs.

Windows is like a submarine. Open a window and serious problems will start.
