OK, as you can guess from the fact that I replied and created so many thopics today, I’m home, with a cold.
I tried to “chill out”, playing some games I got for free from the Epic store. They used to run great, using the heroic launcher, last summer.
What happened when I tried to launch a game today:
      – heroic said that my credentials where too old and that I had to log in again- no problem. I logged off, tried to log on- no can do. It said that I could also log via the browser and pasting the SID on the heroic- no can do (nothing happens).
So I went to heroic’s home page- my version was 2.4.0. beta. The current version was 2.4.3 (final). I downloaded the latest version’s -deb and installed it- no problem there… I tried to launch heroic- nothing happened. Being a seasoned linux user, I tried launching from cli- it spat out an avalanche of errors…
I download and ran the same appimage of the same version- and got what seems to be the same error…
I went back to heroic’s website and downloaded versiop 2.4.0 (the final version of the beta that used to run just fine)- same error… What the hell?
I’m still on antiX 19, full, 64 bits on this PC, my more powerful device, the only one that can run those kinds of games- I’m not giving any details because I’m just commenting the situation, not searching for a way to solve it, for now: so the facts- I have 3 games that used to play fine last summer, that don’t play at all now, I have about 90 games, acquired for free in Epic Store promotions… Boy, I hope that Valve’s Steam works better for it’s users in Linux… This is exactly the reason why Linux has not taken off in desktops – it has to deal with “windows software/games” and it’s far from perfect doing that- I know, Linux is next to perfect when running native apps/web apps, but to really take off, it can’t have this kind of errors…

Edit: update- I still had the old 2.2.2. heroic deb file in my hd and installed it- the GUI opens, but it still can’t log on in the application (but logs on great in the in-app-browser)- so probablyu there are 2 problems: older heroic probably can’t log on to the epic store and some antiX update conflicts with launching newer heroic versions running…

        Hi PPC,
please try heroic latest with a sid live stick.
I ran in to a lot of lib mismatch errors with a latest application versions.
Many are nearer to Buntu which is sid based.

I hear a lot of complaints about gaming on windoze, often needs very new expensive
hardware. And a deep pocket at present electricity prices.
Advantage, keeps kids rooms cuddly warm here in autumn, winter start.

Drink Thyme or ginger Tea with Lemon and Honey, really good for clearing up colds and
        flu.
