Can I ask why antiX is distributed with SpaceFM and not with PCManFM, which is more known?
Can someone list here the advantages of SpaceFM?Thank you in advance for a reply.

::1, 2, 3 or 4 panes file manager.
no need for gvfs for its functions.
not tied to a desktop environment.
a stupefying number of customization options
but you can find pcmanfm in the File Managers area of Package Installer if you want it.

::a stupefying number of customization options
I can’t find the bookmark at the moment, but 2yrs ago some websearch led me to a 30+ post long topic at a site called “DailyWTF”
in which the participants were denegrading the software, due to (their ignorance and) its overwhelming number of customization options.
Really, I was most surprised to note that NO ONE mentioned its (thorough, but abstruse) unapproachable documentation.lucbertz, here’s a question back at ya:
spacefm can be compiled against GTK2 or GTK3. Is the same true for PCManFM?February 16, 2018 at 3:13 am #6634Member

::I only want to understand antiX developers’ choice.
Anyway PCManFM now:
– supports tabs;
– gvfs is recommended but not mandatory;
– even if it is developed under LXDE project, it doesn’t have dependency on a desktop environment (at least apparently).
I saw this comparing https://packages.debian.org/stretch/i386/pcmanfm with https://packages.debian.org/stretch/i386/spacefm .PCManFM is only GTK2 and probably it will be no longer evolved, due to PCManFM-QT under LXQT project.
But also SpaceFM project seems o be in a sort of dormant development status ( no changes since 2016 : https://github.com/IgnorantGuru/spacefm/releases ).I used to be familiar with PCManFM because I come from lubuntu, but I can consider to switch to SpaceFM if I can see it’s in some way better.
So I will investigate in “a stupefying number of customization options”. 😉Thank you.

::Thanks for explaining the PCManFM specs, lucbertz.
a couple vids I’ve bookmarked, in addition to dolphin_oracle’s spacefm tutorial videos:
Design Mode in SpaceFM File Manager (45sec quickie intro): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jdGUc2XsaU4
Lubuntu Screencast: SpaceFM – extraordinary filemanager (25min): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HtbCfR-sfUMFollow the links in the topic I posted 2wks ago, spacefm development has a pulse and you’ll see current development activity is underway toward an imminent v1.06 spacefm release.
