::It will depend on the model of the USB wifi adapter.
When you connect the adapter, if you run in terminal
inxi -Fxxxz
Copy and save the output of the command in a file (example inxi.txt) and post it here.If you know the adapter name and model, it could be even faster. We would be able to check if the drivers are already available in antiX or if you have to update the kernel or install specific firmware.

::You need it to be plugged in when starting up, the system should then load the driver necessary.
(If that doesn’t work, then the above….)
Edit: With the connman GUI, you may have to switch it off & on before it will show all options.

::Some of the comments in amazon report it working on linux after installing the corresponding driver.
With the Wifi USB adapter connected, run:
lsusb | grep -i "wireles\|realtek"
Your wifi adapter is probably a Realtek chip if the amazon.in comments are reliable. Updating to Kernel 4.19 might help (helped me on my laptop), but it is better if we know what chip your wifi donggle has.Give us the output of the previous command and we can determine if you need to install the drivers or if a kernel update is enough.
If you can connect though ethernet or using your phone (connected with USB), to install the 4.19 kernel, run Package Installer (white icon in the panel), search for kernel, and install the kernel-antix one that in the description mentions LTS (4.19.XXX).

::Hi cherith_reddy,
You could try installing a newer kernel, but may still be disappointed.
Unfortunately, the device you have is notorious for poor quality and performance.
I am unable to find out which chipset is involved.
Maybe it is just what is cheapest available in CN and keeps changing. That applies to many cheaper and some
more expensive devices.A micro dongle is in general a poor idea, you may be able to use it with a usb cable to
move it away from your computer but it will always run hot and have poor performance due tiny antenne.Micro dongle from TP Link I own gives awful performance.
I am guessing you are in India as the device you bought is seemingly largly offered in that country.
To far away for me to give you an adapter, I have several.Reputed to work ok and inexpensive is ROCKETKART 2.4Ghz, 600Mbps Wireless WiFi Adapter for pc with High Gain Antenna.
Available on Amazon.in. I would though recommend to research before any further purchase. Local forums can usualy help most.
In india or asia you will find local help @ ubuntu or arch can be very useful. Ubuntu is debian based so directly applicable
to MX in technical cases, not always software wise.it was working completely fine on Windows XP which I had in the same system
the driver was installed automaticallyNovember 3, 2020 at 8:53 am #44277Membercherith_reddy

I was not able to update pc got stuck
I think it was because I was running live DVDedit 2:
I tried again
it was done in seconds then “process finished” appeared and asked, “do you want to exit Package installer?”- This reply was modified 2 years, 6 months ago by cherith_reddy.

Many have had problems with it and someone created a .deb installer for both the firmware and kernel driver, but you need at least kernel 4.19.XXXI checked in antiX 19.3 and the firmware is NOT included. To get it to work, you would have to install antiX, update the kernel and test if the wifi USB adapter works out of the box. If it doesn’t, you can get the .deb installer from https://github.com/corneal64/Realtek-USB-Wireless-Adapter-Drivers
I was given a cd with the wifi adapter
Maybe, once you install antiX (in a partition or frugally), you could first try the instructions included in the CD and install the driver using the CD instructions. If that doesn’t help, you can install it from the github .deb package.

Thanks a lot
mostly i will be installing it tomorrow or dayafter and surely try it out
but in github they told it should have kernel 4.15.x ~ 5.3.x
“For Kernel 4.15.x ~ 5.3.x (Linux Mint or Ubuntu Derivatives)”
so would it workNovember 3, 2020 at 6:43 pm #44313Member
