      @Xecure,

For the purpose of learning from me and other colleagues. Could you please clarify some doubts?

In the test you did with the VM (Virtual Machine). Which package did you use “comandortl8188fu-dkms_1.0.3_amd64.deb” or “rtl8188fufw-firmware_1.0.1.deb” and which command or program did you use to install?

@cherith_reddy, the details you provide help me a lot to understand your problem and I believe it helps other colleagues, who can serve as an example for other similar cases.

      Thank you.

        I installed both.

rtl8188fufw-firmware_1.0.1.deb – The firmware only adds a firmware binary file in /lib/firmware/rtlwifi/. The firmware is needed for the driver to work. If you navigate the firmware folder, you will see lots of files for different devices (wifi, bluetooth, graphic cards, etc.). The firmware is like the “Interpreter” between the driver and the device. If you have the driver but are missing the firmware, the driver will not know “how to give instructions or understand instructions” to/from the device.

rtl8188fu-dkms_1.0.3_amd64.deb – This file will “install” the driver itself (with dkms instructions). As you know, the linux kernel contains all the compiled drivers (as modules) ready to be loaded when needed. When a driver is not included in the kernel, you need to compile it for it to work with that exact kernel. If you change of kernel version, you would need to recompile the driver that was added manually with the previous kernel. If you use DKMS (Dynamic Kernel Module Support) to compile the driver, every time you install a new kernel, the DKMS instructions will recompile the driver for the new kernel automatically, so you don’t need to compile it “manually” each time.

This is a simplified explanation. Many things can be nitpicked and corrected, but the general idea is close to reality.

          pls help me with this
sorry if I am troubling you

          edit :

I downloaded both debs and they installed OK on my 4.9.XXX kernel on a VM. I cannot test if they work, but they installed OK on antiX.

sorry I didn’t see this message before sending this (as I didn’t reload the page)

thanks a ton for your constant help 🙂

First and second almost exactly the same, but the first one has Debian instructions, so it is better.

The difference with the third link is that the third has the driver already packaged for debian, but if you don’t mind following the instructions, the first link is the better of the three.

sorry I didn’t get what you meant by the bold text above

to do as you said I need to copy the command in Github and paste and run it command prompt, Right??

Yes. Sorry. That is what I meant. Copyiing and running the commands one at a time from the first gitlab link should be enough to install both the driver and firmware.

Then you can follow the other optional instructions to disable some features, as recommended. The set of instructions for disabling MAC Address Spoofing is only relevant for Network Manager (not used by default in antiX, which uses connman).

Don’t edit too much a post or the antispam software in the forum will block it.

Anyway, until a mod can recover it, this is your situation:
Yo have (most probably) an ms-dos partition table. You have 1 primary partition (24 GBs) that contains your windows XP installation, and an extended partition (with 3 logical data partitions inside).
I recommend you boot into XP and move all the data inside the last two logical partitions (the 40 and 45 GB partitions contanining only 177 and 202 MBs of data) to the other logical partition (39 GB containing 3.5 Gbs of data). Once you do that, from XP or from Gparted in antiX live, remove the two (now empty) logical partitions and use the extra space to create 1 primary partition (ext4) to house antiX Linux system and a 2GB swap partiton (swap type).
Then, from the installer, select the ext4 partition for root, home inside root, boot inside root, and the 2GB swap partition you created become the main swap partition.

Once the mods recover your post, you can add a new comment with a new screenshot if you want to be sure before proceeding.

                          MY PROBLEM SOLVED

                          SUMMARY

Problem: My USB WiFi adapter was not getting recognized by antiX 19.3, therefore I was not able to connect to WiFi

-> I was asked to execute this in terminal ~ inxi -Fxxxz ,for getting all information about of my system to check if the drivers are already available in antiX or if I have to update the kernel or install specific firmware.

-> I was asked to execute this in terminal ~ lsusb , for checking what chip set is present in my WiFi adapter
After executing this was one of the output
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 0bda:f179 Realtek Semiconductor Corp.
therefore It ended up being a realtek rtl8188fu.

-> Many have had problems with it and someone created a .deb installer for both the firmware and kernel driver, but I need at least kernel 4.19.XXX
Xecure checked in antiX 19.3 and the firmware is NOT included. To get it to work, I would have to install antiX on the System (if not done), update the kernel and test if the wifi USB adapter works out of the box. If it doesn’t, I can get the .deb installer from https://github.com/kelebek333/rtl8188fu

Copying and running the commands one at a time from the first gitlab link should be enough to install both the driver and firmware.

Then I can follow the other optional instructions to disable some features, as recommended. The set of instructions for disabling MAC Address Spoofing is only relevant for Network Manager (not used by default in antiX, which uses connman).

-> I did exactly as stated above
                          1. updated the kernel
(I needed to connect though Ethernet or using your phone (connected with USB), to install the 4.19 kernel, run Package Installer (white icon in the panel), search for kernel, and install the kernel-antix one that in the description mentions LTS (4.19.XXX).)
                          2. copied and ran the commands one at a time from the first git lab link.(https://github.com/kelebek333/rtl8188fu
3.then all problems solved I went to connman and I could see WiFi option now (for more clarity read the article by Xecure https://www.antixforum.com/forums/topic/wifi-with-connman-antix-19-2/ and watch the video)

                          the end
