Often in cmst under the state column in services says failure (when I try to connect it gives the error input/ output), not online or idle as usual and cannot connect to wi-fi hotspot until reboot. Is some other method to reset the connman/ connection without rebooting?

I watched your video and everything worked okay using Connman except connecting to the wireless network.
I clicked on the wireless network I wanted to connect to, the screen to enter the passcode popped up, and I entered the passcode (passcode consists of numbers and lower case letters and is eight characters long).
I then clicked on Ok. That resulted in two error messages:
              (1) Agent request failed before a reply was returned and (2) Connman returned the following error: connect-failed Would you like to retry?
              The following information may help:

Loaded Drivers: B43 Tulip and Fjes
Broadcom Drivers Blocked: B43Legacy B44 BRCM80211 BRCMSMAC and WL

                Broadcom Limited BMC4318 [14E4:4318] Rev. 2

                It should work OK.

I would first check that it is properly detected (run in terminal):
                inxi -Nxxxz
And see if it is the kernel driver b43 or if it comes from one of the broadcom packages.

If t looks OK, then try if it is a connman issue and not a driver issue.
Control Centre > Network > Select Wifi application > Ceni.
Try to configure the wifi using ceni and see if it properly connects to your Wireless Access Point. Then test if the web browser works OK.

If this test is OK, then Connman is the issue. If it still doesn’t work, the post for us the inxi -Nxxxz terminal output. We will explore things from there to see if the device is hardware blocked, or the driver is being blacklisted, or if other drivers work better for this device.

First off, I should have mentioned the computer is a Compaq 5WV254 about 20 years old, and based on the copyright date in the Quick Installation pamphlet that came with it the WiFi card is about 15 years old.

Here is the output from inxi -Nxxxz:

                  $ inxi -Nxxxz
                  Network:
Device-1: Broadcom Limited BCM4318 [AirForce One 54g] 802.11g Wireless LAN
                  vendor: Linksys WMP54GS v1.1 driver: b43-pci-bridge v: N/A bus ID: 00:03.0
                  chip ID: 14e4:4318
                  Device-2: Lite-On LNE100TX vendor: Netgear FA310TX driver: tulip
                  v: 1.1.15-NAPI port: 1000 bus ID: 00:04.0 chip ID: 11ad:0002
Device-3: VIA VT82C686 [Apollo Super ACPI] type: network bridge
driver: N/A port: 1820 bus ID: 00:14.4 chip ID: 1106:3057

I had tried earlier to configure the WiFi card using Ceni, but was unsuccessful. I have reinstalled the antiX system since then.

Also, I tried removing the passcode from the router so I would not have to enter a passcode in Connman, but I got the same error when I tried to connect.

I was wondering if I should be using B43 Legacy instead of B43.

                    I just remembered something.

I have set up my router to use a MAC address passthrough. If the MAC address is not listed, it is blocked.

If you can tell me how to get the MAC address for the card, I will do that. Otherwise, I can pull the card and get it that way.

                      inxi -nx
                      Or also
                      ifconfig
If you know the interface name (for example “wlan0”, you can get it with
                      ifconfig wlan0 | grep ether

Hopefully it is as you say and it is MAC whitelist. The device with the default b43-pci-bridge kernel driver seems to work for different distros (includng Debian and Ubuntu), so it should also work for you here.

                        Success!!!!!

Thank you so very much for your help, and I apologize for for not remembering about the MAC table.

My only remaining question is how may characters can the passcode have?

I cut it back to 8 characters to get it working, but I usually use a passcode that is about 60 characters long.

No idea what the limit is, but as long as it doesn’t have spaces or special characters like “\ or similar, it should work

I may have spoken too soon. I can get connected, but it constantly connects and disconnects.

Also, I cannot find the package installer.

I am using antix 19.2 I recently upgraded with the latest offering. I chose the recommended default. Immediately the wifi went off ( I have only wifi on my laptop).later I inserted a live USB version of antix 19.2 the wifi was working normally. I then removed the USB, and no wifi again. It seems that the default option on the upgrade broke conman. I thought the default and recommended choice was the safe. I see that videos are available,BUT on YouTube therefore can’t be saved for viewing offline. Please can anyone help me.

I can get antiX to recognize my wifi card and get it connected to the router and presumably to the internet. But it constantly connects and disconnects. I tried a brand new dongle, same problem. Used the dongle on a different computer (Windows 10) and it worked fine. MY question is, if I turn off the wired internet connection, will that solve the problem.

Never mind. I tried it with the dongle and it connected and disconnected as before. The only things I can think of at this point are: 1. I did not have the wifi card installed when I installed antiX which may have caused a problem during the installation and 2. The computer and the mother board are 20 years old and there could be an unfixable hardware problem.
