      Dear developers,

      I read that to install Windows 11 for free you need;
      – a CPU of at least 8th generation,
      – a Secure Boot,
      – a TPM 2.0 (Trusted Platform Module).

Can Antix handle all these features for my new PC?

      Best regards,
      Wallon

Note: This is my own speculation and not an official answer.

        Hi, Wallon.

TPM 2.0 and modern CPU’s are OK. The problem is

        – a Secure Boot,

This is the possibly biggest issue. If Microsoft (and Hardware manufacturers) enforces it, then the current antiX and MX Linux systems will not boot at all.

There are 2 possibilities I see:
        – Microsoft recommends but doesn’t enforce Secure Boot (different parties are pressuring Microsoft to not enforce it). So, secure boot can still be disabled and W11 (Windows 11) will work OK (the current W11 ISO can be configured to ignore Secure Boot requirements).
        – Microsoft gives MX Linux a special license (because it is so popular) so that MX Linux can Sign their kernels and be able to boot on Secure Boot (and antiX will have to use the MX Linux kernels on the x64 ISOs).

The final possibility is antiX/MX having to hack things with a shim + Debian kernels to be able to boot and install on TPM2 with Secure Boot devices, but that is the second worst case scenario.

The worst case scenario: antiX/MX will not work side-by-side on systems with W11.

          Dear Xecure,

I hope that the developers have scheduled a meeting with Microsoft to get a license for antiX and MX Linux.
          Is this license free?
I heard that Windows 11 will be released this year.
It’s a disaster if I can’t use antiX on my new PC anymore.

          Best regards,
          Wallon

Microsoft, a billion dollar corporation is extremely unlikely to stop trying to push sales of their keylogging OS in any way they are able.

Concessions to any linux not completely controlled by above corporation seem very unlikely to me.

In any case I have no intention to install, endorse or use win11.

antiX will not go out of its way to make it Windows 11 compatible.

Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.

antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

My motherboard had a bios update a few days ago so it was compatible with windows 11. After installing this as I was 3 bios updates behind Version 4204, after activating DOCP so my ram would work at 3200Hz and turning off those useless led lights. I just rebooted with fastboot & Secure Boot enabled when straight to the desktop of ArchLabs & antiX which is what i’m using to type this message on. There is no windows on this system and never will be so at the moment antiX is booting to the desktop with secureboot & fastboot enabled. This is without TPM2 turned on.

Opps my mistake TRM2 is enabled & still boots to Linux.

                Version 4502
                2021/08/03 10.97 MBytes
ROG STRIX B450-I GAMING BIOS 4502
Support WIN 11 installed or upgraded

Thanks koo, one board for a works with list,
we may, in the future have to look what debian will run on, antiX should also boot on those devices (I hope).

I tend to recommend Gigabyte boards with dual BIOS as my experience with them has been very good, the feature might be useful
for anyone wanting to give his data freely to one of the largest US corporations.

Be aware that MS may well start messing with Win 10 systems, my win 7 PRO was updated automaticaly to win 10 while running overnight
to update a car system maintenance device. Updates come about every 6 months, do not install with win 10..
I was and still am very annoyed about that, had to reinstate win 7.

OT: The device is to readout, set system features and delete fault codes over the vehicle system Bus, I refuse to pay a workshop 200 Euro
for reading out codes, they tried that on me in Hannover, and told me I would kill myself if I tried to fix the fault myself.
The problem was a broken wire under drivers seat, disconnected vehicle battery waited 10 minutes used a soldering station to fix.
