      Hello,

      I’m new on this forum and sorry if I do some mistakes in English. French is my mother tong.
      I’m a little bit trouble because I have noticed that “antiX 19 Full” has not the same options in English and in French in the window “add-desktop”.
      I have tested my USB Live on my desktop (Intel i5-6400) and tested also my old laptop (Amd Athlon) with antiX installed. It’s not the same kernel for both and I have the same issue.
      To be sure;
      1) Icon “Favorite Application”
      2) Applications
      3) Preferences
      4) Add Menu Item
      5) In the window “add-desktop”, the line “Item Location”, we can choose;
      -> 1) Application Menu
      or
      -> 2) Desktop Shortcut
      or
      -> 3) Personal.

      But for antiX 19 in french, In the window “add-desktop”, the line “Item Location”, it’s impossible to choose something. All the options are on the same line and the narrow at the end of line is not activated. Please, find attached my 2 screenshots (English versus french)

      Here it is my full info of my desktop (Intel) with the AntiX USB Live

        Bonjour Wallon,
        Vous avez raison, c’est un bug. J’ai rapidement vérifié la traduction. Les caractères de séparation (“|”) entre les entrées sont manquants. Cela a déjà été constaté à trois reprises, mais n’a pas été corrigé. Malheureusement, je ne peux pas le corriger moi-même dans le système transifex. Je vais essayer de prendre contact avec le correcteur responsable.
        Merci pour votre conseil !
        Robin

        P.S. : J’ai corrigé l’erreur dans le fichier de langue correspondant directement. Il est attaché ci-dessous et vous pouvez essayer d’utiliser celui-ci. Le fichier doit être dans le répertoire

        '/usr/share/locale/fr/LC_MESSAGES'

        Il s’appelle ‘add-desktop.mo‘ et vous devez le décompresser.
        Veuillez enregistrer le fichier du même nom avant de copier le nouveau à sa place, s’il vous plaît.

          Separator characters (“|”) between entries are missing.
          This has already been observed three times, but has not been corrected.
          Unfortunately, I cannot fix it myself in the transifex system.
          I will try to contact the responsible corrector.

            @skidoo Sorry again for answering him in french language!

            @Wallon There is a way you may try to fix it on your own within the file.
            first open terminal window and enter

            cd ~
            mkdir fix_translation && cd fix_translation && cp /usr/share/locale/fr/LC_MESSAGES/add-desktop.mo add-desktop.mo
            msgunfmt add-desktop.mo >add-desktop.po
            geany add-desktop.po &

            edit the line containing
            msgstr "1) Menu des applications 2) Raccourci Bureau 3) Personnel"
            without touching anything else to
            msgstr "1) Menu des applications|2) Raccourci Bureau|3) Personnel"
            and save file.

            go back to terminal window and enter

            cp add-desktop.mo add-desktop.mo.bak && msgfmt -o add-desktop.po add-desktop.mo
            sudo mv add-desktop.mo /usr/share/locale/fr/LC_MESSAGES/add-desktop.mo add-desktop.mo

            after what the french translation should work again.

            All the best!
            Robin

                  Hello Wallon,

                  anticapitalista has just directed me to a method much more simple than both of those I have presented above. This will not break anything, if you follow exactly the instructions you will find here in short time. Don’t throw in the towel right now, it will be like a sunday school picnic.

                  You may start by installing the program “poedit” from “packet installer” in “antiX control center” found in main menu first. This will take about 32 MiB of additional disk space. Before this you may check whether it isn’t preinstalled in 19er series of antiX already, since I am on 17.4.1 still and can’t tell for sure.

                  Once this is done you will have to replace two characters in one file only, I’ll create some screenshots so you will never miss the path. Please stick to it, we’ll get this thing working for you. (for sure, not only for you, there should be many people be glad to find this thing working again.)

                  But if you prefer to wait anyway for the update you may do so also. I don’t have any clue how long it may take until it is in the repos, since I’m not involved in these processes.

                  Robin.

                    The bugfix deb has been set in the repo and should be making its way through the mirrors.
                    Seems to have made it to a few mirrors already.

                      Great work! This is what I call really fast bug fixing indeed, after it came to knowledge of antiX development team! I didn’t have even spare time to start taking screenshots as promised…
                      Wouldn’t have expected this, since I can’t estimate how much work is to be done behind scenes to make it happen.
                      So I will not go on with my approaches to sort this problem out on an individual single case base. Instead I’ll rather think of some way or another how we can make things in translation work more smoothly in general in transifex, which means: how we can make sure bugs in translation files will never again survive that long undiscovered, resp. unfixable and therefore not get fixed at all by other translators.

                        Dear All,

                        Thank you very much for your support.
                        I have tried to fill out the new display window but it doen’t work. Perhaps I do something wrong.
                        I have tried to use an AppImage (LibreOffice for example). I can open a file *.odt with this AppImage with a double clic in my file manager SpaceFM.
                        I want to create a new item in the Applications, in the line Office.
                        Please find my screenshot.
                        Would you please tell me if I have to modidy something or it’s not possible with an AppImage.

                        Best regards,

                          Probably you will have to put the command in front of it with witch you can launch the image. Am I mistaken assuming this is an ISO-Image? In this case you will have to mount it before use.

                          sudo mkdir /mnt/iso
                          sudo mount -o loop /home/am/AppImage/LibreOffice-still.full-x86_amd64.AppImage /mnt/iso

                          But… I’m a little confused now, since Libreoffice is preinstalled in antiX, at least you may get it from packet installer found in antiX Control Center. You probably would have just to start Libreoffice from Menu–>Programs–>Büro.

                          Maybe somebody else can tell you more exactly what you should do.

                            Adding the file to the applications menu actually makes the .desktop file under ~/.local/share/applications/custom/ (which reminds me I need to change this to remove the custom part). As such it will not show up under the default applications menu as by default the applications menu is by default under the system (/usr/share/desktop-menu/) which allows the menu to automatically update after installing a package through apt (either from the repos or a .deb file). If you would like to have this under the application menu then you would need to manually run the menu building script and maintain a local (in your user home) copy of the menu file. Really this kind of action is what the personal menu was added for; Custom / Favourite items.

                            I see there is no real way that the personal menu can be easily refreshed now. This program was made before the current menu building structure so it probably due for some updating (would menu-manager be a replacement?). Ah how invaluable testing is! Will look into fixing this hopefully leveraging the current testing in antiX 21.

                            For now you should be able to use the app to add an item then run the menu update command.
                            I would recommend to choose the personal menu so that you do not loose the automatic menu update. Then run:
                            desktop-menu --menu-file /etc/xdg/menu/TCM-MENU.menu --write-out --write-out-file personal

                            Alternatively if you do not mind running the menu building script every time you update or install an app you can run and prefer it in the applications menu run:

                            rm ~/.icewm/menu-applications;
                            desktop-menu --write-out;

                            Note: you only need to run the “rm” command once if you choose this route. Every other time you can run desktop-menu –write-out. Removing the –write-out option allows you to see the menu output printed to the screen.

                            Edit: I think app-select will see it as well in either position. Maybe not though I have not tried. Again showing the invaluable need for testing.

                              Given the above, we should expect this inexact “command” would execute, what, exactly?
                              Naively, I’m guessing
                              “Libre Office would start, and present its menu asking whether you want to use the Writer component or the XCalc component or…”

                              Maybe all the command lacks (as written, so far) is additional parameters
