Window manager and startx no mouse support

Hi all !! I am an AntiX newbie. I have some linux/Unix experience but not a lot. I installed AntiX on a Toshiba Portege m200 with Nvidia graphics card. Everything was running smoothly except I tried using a different window manager when logging off and shutting down. The window manager had a shutdown button on the right at the bottom. Now when I start the OS it boots to command line only. I then used the startx cmd and it boots to the window but I have no mouse support or mouse pad support on the laptop. Is this a bug or is it a peculiarities to the window manager I changed and used to shutdown after my last session Thanks

Please post output of ‘inxi -Fxz’.
I am not an expert on this topic but based on the other topics I have read, this could be due to: Xorg-server, kernel version (drivers), or dedicated Nvidia drivers are needed, or the ISO you used for creating installation media could be corrupted.
The more detailed information you provide may help others to help with the problem.

When you are in CLI (command line), try to reconfigure slimski and keyboard.

sudo dpkg-reconfigure slimski
sudo dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configuration

When I started using Antix, I read the tutorials that the PPC created, these readings spared me a lot of my time and I think it saves the time of any new Antix user. Your time will not be lost with these readings, it will seem to be much easier than you could imagine. You will not waste your time with internet searches or even create new topics, on the contrary, you will earn a lot of time from these readings. I recommend you try the work areas that have “ZZZ” in your name. I usually use the “ZZZ-Icewm” or “ZZZ-JWM” or “ZZZ-Fluxbox” (each of these work areas have their own characteristics and consume more or less resources). ZZZFM will be the default file manager in your desktop, it is very similar to other file managers from other GNU/Linux distributions and Windows XP. To access the other Antix work
areas, click the Antix menu (or right -click), desktop, switch between desktops and click on the work area name, instantly to desktop will be loaded.

Whenever you need to request technical help or support in this forum, explain in detail what is happening, do not save the words, be thorough when writing, enter the characteristics of your computer, such as the brand
and the model. If possible, post the result of the command $ Inxi -zv7 of the terminal, copy and paste here in the message of the topic you create in this forum.

Quando eu comecei a utilizar o antiX, eu li os tutoriais que o PPC criou, estas leituras me pouparam muito do meu tempo e acho que poupa o tempo de qualquer novo usuário do antiX. O seu tempo não será perdido com estas leituras, tudo parecerá ser muito mais fácil do que você poderia imaginar. Você não perderá o seu tempo com pesquisas na internet ou até mesmo em criar novos tópicos, ao contrário, você ganhará muito tempo com estas leituras. Eu recomendo você experimentar as áreas de trabalho que possuem “zzz” em seu nome. Eu costumo utilizar o “zzz-IceWM” ou “zzz-JWM” ou “zzz-Fluxbox” (cada uma destas áreas de trabalho possuem características próprias e consomem mais ou menos recursos). O zzzFM será o gerenciador de arquivos padrão da sua área de trabalho, ele é muito semelhante aos outros
gerenciadores de arquivos das outras distribuições GNU/Linux e do Windows XP. I have no idea what I did but I kept rebooting and after the 4th or 5th reboot AntiX booted up like it’s supposed to. It reverted back to the default Roxfluxbox with login on desktop environment. It had mouse support and I logged back in. I didn’t verify my download of AntiX 22 using checksum but I ran integrity check on 2 other machines and on the target machine Toshiba Portege M200 Centrino with Nvidia GeForce FX before installing antix. I know that it was booting normaly and the only thing I did different was to switch to the Minimal JWM window manager before logging out. After that my system only booted to the CLI and after logging in and running cmd startx it booted into JWM without mouse support. I’m not used to any of the 3 types of window mangers in the distro. I’m researching the manuals for window managers now and playing with them. I’m trying AntiX to achieve the functionality for my portege that this guy did https://jansen-pcinfo.com/2020/01/13/recover-toshiba-portege-m200-laptop/

If you want a more “standard Desktop” I would advise this: select zzz-icewm desktop. Install the package “ft10-transformation”. then go to the antiX menu > Applications > Settings and choose to Enable Ft10 > select the kind of menu you feel more confortable with (there are 2). If you dislike FT10, you can disable it, from the menu. It’s meant to give you a more standard toolbar and menu. Search FT10 here in the forum, to get a feel for what it does…

Also, there a IceWM manager GUI (available here in the forum, that should be included in antiX in the near future) that allows you to configure IceWM (change themes, add toolbar icons, auto-hide the toolbar, change the toolbar size and position, add icons to the desktop, etc).

I will try to post output and alter the slimski files if it happens again. Thank you for the support and quick responses. Here is the other article on my laptop project that I’m working on. I’m reading all the manuals in our forum now on AntiX
