Dear everyone.
I don’t think anyone would do something like this…
With antiX 22, 23bea1(both zzz-iceWM).
Launch “App Select”.
Select any application.
Execute “Open in leafpad” from the right-click menu.
With “Leafpad” open, move the “App Select” window or “Leafpad” window several times with the mouse. It should look like this screenshot.
Is this what it is like?

::It actually looks much worse after moving Leafpad window in my case…
Thanks for pointing out.Update:
It appears that replacing Leafpad with Geany fixes this. No artifacts anymore in my testing…
So it looks like Leafpad issue.- This reply was modified 4 weeks ago by olsztyn.

::So it looks like Leafpad issue.
This is *not* an issue with leafpad. We see exactly the same issue with the very same ghost windows verdy points to in other scripts also:
https://www.antixforum.com/forums/topic/antix-23-package-installer-help-needed/page/2/#post-101913
So I reckon this issue is about how a script calls an application or opens another window, rather than which application is called. It might accidentally happen to work with geany in this case for some reason. But rather this it is a video driver issue, or an IceWM issue. But the least suspect program to cause this is leafpad itself, even when it triggers the issue obviously in this case.
After a couple of tests: Actually there is no need to replace leafpad, it works fine when called properly by the script.
As as quick fix for this specific case just add an ampersand to the leafpad line within the ~/.config/app-select.conf file
Open in leafpad|leafpad %p &Then the issue doesn’t occur.
Windows is like a submarine. Open a window and serious problems will start.

Thank you Robin…
Thank you for your explanation. You are right, indeed… No need to replace with Geany. So what does the ampersand do to video that it makes such a difference?

::But sadnely nothing changed in my system environments.
I am just curious if replacing leafpad with geany worked for you. Understandable it is not a solution, as Robin pointed out, but perhaps an interim workaround…
I believe you need to copy geany to the ‘plugin’ folder of app-select for the replacement to work.
For me this is not an important issue with app-select but good to know…Live antiX Boot Options (Previously posted by Xecure):

::I tried on two PC’s(laptop and desktop).
But sadnely nothing changed in my system environments. This is really strange. For me the ampersand method works on two different hardware machines and two different antiX versions, two different kernels:
Without ampersand, shot taken after moving around the windows:

Ampersand added, shot taken after moving around the windows:

So maybe this is a question of localisation? My testings were done on „de” localised systems, and the ampersand works also on a live system booted to English language. So the question is:
Does the issue show up for you still when adding the ampersand on an antiX 22 or 23 full, live booted to English language?
Did you restart app-select after modifying the line in its config?
Another chance is to modify the line as follows:
Open in leafpad|coproc leafpad %pThis should be enough already, but:
Since app-select wouldn’t accept the default bash builtin „coproc” for some strange reason, if it is filed literally instead of the ampersand, you’ll need to apply additionally the following dirty hack:
Create a text file /usr/lib/app-select/plugins/coproc and enter the following lines. Make sure to have an additional empty line at the end of the file.
#!/bin/bash coproc "$@"Then set it’s permissions the way they are needed:
sudo chmod 755 '/usr/lib/app-select/plugins/coproc'(711 is NOT sufficient, on contrary to what the info text found in app-select.conf reads, the file isn’t executed with 711 for some strange reason)
This script will simply hand over the coproc instruction to bash, a simple task app-select should have done already on its own.
Make sure app-select was closed and restarted completely after these modificatons.
The Ampersand and the literal coproc method do work both for me on the two antiX machines, antiX 22 and antiX 23:

But in the end I reckon this is something which must be fixed in the app-select application.

::Hello Robin,
First and foremost, I apologize.
I was re-reading your post and I knocked down myself. The app-select.conf I was editing was /usr/share/app-select/app-select.conf.I just realized that I was wrong.
The first time I tried ‘Open in Geany’, I was editing the correct file, but after some time, when I launched another antiX, I selected the wrong file.
Yes, it’s an ugly excuse. After rewriting ~/.config/app-select.conf, it was reflected correctly.
After add an ampersand, keep on Leafpd or Mirage or Geany, Windows of App Select is running good!So maybe this is a question of localisation?
No.
There are 3 antiX currently in my use. antiX22 (locale en_US), antiX 23beta1 (locale Ja_JP), antiX 23beta1 (locale en_US). All will work the same.Does the issue show up for you still when adding the ampersand on an antiX 22 or 23 full, live booted to English language?
No.
Did you restart app-select after modifying the line in its config?
Yes, logout , login.
This should be enough already, but:
Since app-select wouldn’t accept the default bash builtin „coproc” for some strange reason, if it is filed literally instead of the ampersand, you’ll need to apply additionally the following dirty hack:
Create a text file /usr/lib/app-select/plugins/coproc and enter the following lines. Make sure to have an additional empty line at the end of the file.
I tried this.
Without ampersand, it work fine.Thank you again for knowledge and time of you.

Hello verdy,
no need to apologise. This kind of mistakes happens to me as well. No problem at all. After add an ampersand, keep on Leafpd or Mirage or Geany, Windows of App Select is running good!
This is what counts. Great you have spotted this bug and can confirm now the proposed solution works for you. Now we can let know @davew , the author of this script, he can simply add the ampersand for all the program entries to the config file of app-select to fix this.
Many thanks again!
Kind regards

I remembered latest App Select announced by Dave at March 25, 2023 in App Select thread
I tried it fom gitlab.
This use desktop-defaults-run insted of leafpad and mirage. And Window of App Select work well without ampersand.but using add-desktop,i saw window issue .
With magic of ampersand it work well. -
