Hi,
Since last upgrade (2 days ago) open applications’ windows height increase automatically from time to time, without any command. I shall resize all of them manually every time.
I do not know how to fix it

::More information is needed.
Is this for icewm or other window managers?applications’ windows height increase automatically from time to time
Do you mean they increase in size when launched compared to previous times they loaded or, without you touching anything, the already opened windows suddenly increase in size?
I did realize that icewm does change windows geometry when toggling maximize – restore, or when toggling on/off window decorations. I don’t know if that was already there, so I cannot say.
Please explain a bit more about your problem (step by step if possible so we can reproduce the behavior) and the icewm users can verify it.

::A short time ago an Icewm bug caused something which sounds
like the kind of behaviour you describe.
Please make sure you have Bugfixed version 1.9.2-1.0antix1
installed before looking further.November 16, 2020 at 5:30 pm #45149MemberPHerrmann
::Thank you for answering
I use icewm.
1°) Let’s suppose file manager is opened (not full screen) : window height will increase a little every time I copy or move a file
2°) Let’s suppose Handbrake (1.2.2) is opened (not full screen) : when I open a video file, the window enlarges automatically and becomes so big that the only way to continue is to use Alt+clic and drag down the window until the top is visible and then set Handbrake full screen
Shotcut (20.10.31) behaves in the same way, but window size increase is moderate and I need not to set it full screen.
In file manager window options, I toggled unsuccessfully between “Never change size automatically” and “Always change size”
3°) Some applications are not affected, for example web browser (Firefox 78.4.0) behaves normallyNovember 16, 2020 at 5:59 pm #45152Forum Admin

::Make sure you have the latest version of IceWM (1.9.2-1.0antix1) as it is supposed to fix that bug.
Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.
antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

::Thank you for answering,
Icewm version is : 1.9.1-1.0antix1
I’ll upgrade to 1.9.2 and let you knowNovember 16, 2020 at 7:10 pm #45165MemberModdIt
::@ PHermann
The bugfixed version of icewm works fine, well tested now.was earlier post too unclear, a language issue
or not enough explanation ?. I do learn from feedback.I wrote:

::I tried unsuccessfully to upgrade icewm from version 1.9.1-1.0antix1 to version 1.9.2-1.0antix1, following the process indicated on ice-wm.org site.
I installed apparently missing packages : lzip and pkg-config, but got stuck in command line “./configure –prefix=/usr” of indicated process, being asked to install other missing packages.
Considering that this process exceeds by far my small Linux competencies and that the strange behavior encountered is not blocking, I will use my PC as is and just wait for next regular upgrade.
I came to Antix for two main reasons : 1°) I appreciate Debian environment and 2°) systemd causes my computer to crash after I neglected warnings indicating low hdd free space, because of two gigantic syslog and daemon.log files (several tens of GB each) always rapidly increasing. Antix is working fine and I will think very carefully before I do something I do not understand.
Thank you for your interest,

I think you complicated things a bit.
antiX is based on Debian. To upgrade any package “the Debian Way”, you simply do
sudo apt update && sudo apt upgradeicewm will install automatically if there is a new update.

::Hi again,
we all started and sometimes still feel confused and need help. No need to be shy.no need for IceWM Org, the bugfix version of iceewm entered the repos for antix some days ago,
did you do apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade.
If yes and you are not getting the upgrade, maybe your apt sources list is broken
or you are using a bad mirror server.In the Controll Center last tab, maintenance you can use the repository manager to
set another mirror and try to update again.If you are still unable to upgrade please let us know and we will figure out why,
one step at a time is easier to understand.Pls do not get confused by command differences between my post and the one from Xecure.

::two gigantic syslog and daemon.log files
Interesting, I also had gigantic log files with systemd, although I never thought it could be the culprit. I don’t have the issue with runit.

::Thank you Moddit,
I did an upgrade a couple of days ago, but I have just executed now a dist-upgrade : 1°) icewm upgraded to 1.9.2-1.0antix1 and 2°) windows now behave as expected (Handbrake, Shotcut, icewm).
The issue is solved, thank you for your help and teaching,

::To Dzhigit,
1°) I cannot be sure that systemd was the cause of my system crash. I previously used Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE), and the problems began after I installed LMDE3 (march 2019). I read somewhere that LMDE3 used systemd. I did not understand why syslog and daemon.log were filled up with error messages; I asked, but nobody answered. So I used to delete those two files regularly and I accepted the noise and the small slowdown of hdd access (due to continuous write process). I left inadvertently the PC unattended a couple of days and when I returned, it displayed a warning of full hdd.
I could not rescue the system and I erased the disk (dban).
Then I switched to an non-systemd Debian based Linux, selecting antiX I had previously tested on an old laptop.
2°) I did not know runit and I don’t think I would have been able to make the change
Thank youNovember 19, 2020 at 9:29 am #45381MemberModdIt
::Glad you got icewm updated.
BTW from posting about the very irritating bug to released deb with fix took around 4 Hours, that included some testing time.
Lightning response by anticapitalista was possible due patch available from ICEWM.org. What I like about Open source is the
way we can all work together to get issues fixed. A major well known corporation would have gone in to denial for weeks, or
longer, blamed anything except themselves.I did not understand why syslog and daemon.log were filled up with error messages; I asked, but nobody answered.
Maybe too embarrasing.
You would have found a general problem, I got sick of the Poettering crap making me jump
through hoops, called called vacuam cleaning log files or turning off logging, example below:$ journalctl –vacuum-size=200M
Deleted archived journal /var/log/journal/d7b25a27fe064cadb75a2f2f6ca7764e/system@00056515dbdd9a4e-a6fe2ec77e516045.journal~ (56.0M).

Vacuuming done, freed 176.0M of archived journals on disk.The files in this case were tiny, disk full messages not uncommon, I was sick of it..
