      Hello friends

I was just wondering if antiX Live USB Maker can be used to create a bootable Windows 8.1 live USB?

      Thank you

        Hi kaye,
just wondering why you do not research your somewhat unusual idea rather than
expecting others to do so for you. This is after all a forum for antiX not windoze
        wizards.

that’s why i posted it in “Other Distros”. or does that not include windoze?

          UPDATE: it cannot.

          going to use rufus.

          thanks

“windoze” is not a “Distro”, it is commercial software, if that is what you are referring to.
I suspect that most of us have been “subjected” to it in one way or another, but the majority of people here have zero interest in going back to it.

I was just wondering if antiX Live USB Maker can be used to create a bootable Windows 8.1 live USB?

Kaye, “antiX Live USB Maker” is only available in .deb and .AppImage packages, these formats do not work on Windows. Just like many programs made for Windows don’t work in Wine.
Besides Rufus, there is Ventoy that works on both Windows and antiX, but one in different formats.

I didn’t realize there was such a thing as a Windows 8.1 Live boot USB. I thought they were for installation only. Maybe I’m wrong?

Anything is POSSIBLE (even a Linux kernel with Windows) but that doesn’t mean we have it or will have it.

I have marked this thread as solved days ago, but for the sake of satisfying anyone’s curiosity, I *think* i have managed to create a Windows 8.1 SL usb flash drive installer.

Running antiX, I created a virtual Windows 8.1 SL using virtualbox. I log into that virtual windows, installed rufus and used rufus to create the windows usb flash drive installer.

Seems successful, although I have yet to use it to install windows on the hard drive itself.

Thank you all for your input.

by the way, the only reason I’m dabbling in windows is because i thought i may want to try playing some games that are only playable in windows. Not a big gamer though.

I do love antiX. I have tried at least 7 distros and antiX is by far my favorite.

One of those that I tried was Debian, and my reason was merely because it is the “grandfather” of most modern linux distros, so I thought it would be cool.

However, Debian kept on hanging on my old computer when I try to open several tabs on a web browser. I rarely experience any hang with antiX running on the same old computer.

If anyone can explain to me why that is, that would be nice.

And so here I am using antiX again and not planning to migrate any time soon.

antiX is simply the best for me.
