      Hi, everyone,

I have recently installed Antix-21 on an old netbook. It’s an HP Mini 110-3100.
The wifi works fine, but the wired connection fails, even though it appears as connected. Before installing the distro, I used the USB-Live option, and both wifi and wired ethernet were working pretty well. I already used another linux distro in this machine (Lubuntu 18.04) and I didn’t have any problem concerning internet connection. I’m a novice user, so any suggestions and help are very welcome.

Hi, and welcome to antiX, dreluis
My first guess, if you told me that you had wi-fi working but not the ethernet connection, I would think it’s an hardware problem – either the port on your computer, a damaged or not correctly connected network cable or a problem with your modem/router.
Are you using the default network manager- connman? If so, do you really have Ethernet enabled there? As a forum user noticed on a recent post, connman does not change automaticaly from wi-fi to ethernet…

Since ethernet was working when you ran antiX Live, please test running antix Live again and check if the ethernet connection is working and report back.

On antiX 19, anticapitalista posted this: https://antixlinux.com/connman-not-connecting/, but I’m unsure is it applies to antiX 21 and, if so, if it applies to your particular problem…

        P.

If this is antiX21, then during the live session is used the 4.9 kernel, whereas on the installed system the 5. kernel is used.
Did you already try to boot into the 4.9 kernel over the advanced options on grub screen?

In fact, it seems that the problem is related to the kernel. Following caprea’s suggestion, I booted into the 4.9 kernel and the wired connection worked perfectly. Thank’s for the support!

My question now is how to put the 4.9 kernel as the default option in the initialization. I suppose is a dumb question but i really don’t know how to do.

I guess there are at most dump answers.
One solution is to deinstall the not working 5.kernel
Go to menu > control-centre > software > Manage packages
It will open synaptic. You can use the search-button, type there linux-image
Now look for the linux-image 5.xx kernel, right click on it and choose deinstall.
The same do with the linux-headers matching the kernel.
Afterwards click on the button “apply”
